From unrestricted stars and restricted phenoms to the top player options on the board — what’s up, LeBron? — let’s talk NBA free agents 2024.
The 2023 NBA offseason is going to be hard to beat. Here are several things that did verifiably happen on earth planet:
- The Phoenix Suns liberated Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards.
- Jaylen Brown, who is very good but has never been the best player on his own team, signed the biggest contract in NBA history by total value.
- The Warriors snagged Chris Paul, the Blazers traded Damian Lillard to the Bucks (who later extended Giannis Antetokounmpo), Marcus Smart headed to Memphis, and Jrue Holiday became a Celtic.
- Amid all the musical chairs, James Harden is still in Philadelphia and as disgruntled as ever.
Word of advice: Consider taking a breath before squaring with all the implications in play for the 2023-24 season.
The offseason is truly never too far away, however, so once you’ve replenished your wherewithal, you do need to realize just how many superstars could change teams next summer. Sure, you’ve got your typical batch of All-Star free agents of the unrestricted and restricted variety, but don’t underestimate the power of the opt-out! (Looking at you, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George.)
With that in mind, let’s talk through the top names on the board for NBA free agency 2024, including the player options still to be decided before the following season.
