A docuseries detailing the history of hip-hop in New York City is set to arrive on Paramount+ next month, courtesy of LL Cool J and Peyton Manning. The duo is teaming up to produce HIP HOP WAS BORN HERE, with LL Cool J set to host the five-episode project premiering on July 22. The series promises to visit “the neighborhoods, studios and places that fostered early styles” with interviews from NYC legends such as Doug E. Fresh, Jadakiss, Method Man, Rev Run, and more.

For the second consecutive year, New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge tops all others in votes (4,012,983) in Phase 1 of MLB‘s fan voting for the All-Star Game starting position players. Leading the National League players is none other than Shohei Ohtani with 3,967,668 votes, as nearly 11 million votes were cast before the noon ET deadline on Thursday. The remaining starters will be revealed on July 2, while pitchers and reserves will be announced on July 6.

Summer’s newest blockbuster, F1 The Movie, raced to a $10 million haul in previews, with $7.2 million made on Thursday alone. The sports drama with a production budget of $200 million is expected to debut at No. 1, projected to earn between $50 million and $60 million over the weekend. Meanwhile, sci-fi thriller M3GAN 2.0 earned $1.5 million on Thursday, with estimates in the $20 million range for the follow-up to the 2022 viral feature.

Group stage matches for this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup drew a total of 1.7 million fans, averaging 34,746 per match, good enough for 57% of stadium capacity. The largest crowd came when Paris Saint-Germain defeated Atlético Madrid in front of 80,619 at the Rose Bowl, while the lowest-attended match attracted just 3,412 fans. The knockout stage of the Club World Cup is set to begin this weekend, including an anticipated match between Lionel Messi and Inter Miami going up against his former squad in PSG.

San Francisco Giants legend Barry Bonds is getting a statue outside of the team’s home ballpark, Oracle Park, President and CEO Larry Baer confirmed. Baer said the 14-time All-Star and seven-time NL MVP is “certainly deserving” of a statue, and while he couldn’t offer any details, he claims it’s on the way: “All I can say is it’s coming.” Bonds played 15 seasons of his 22-year MLB career in the Bay Area, recording 586 of his 762 home runs in a Giants uniform, breaking the late Hank Aaron’s career home run record in 2007.

Amazon MGM Studios has decided to partner with Sony Pictures International for its upcoming worldwide theater distribution plans. The multi-year agreement means Sony will release four upcoming titles  After the Hunt, MercyCrime 101, and Project Hail Mary — to a global audience, while Amazon MGM works to establish its own international distribution infrastructure.

Nobel Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has launched an initiative to invest in women’s sports. The activist’s newest project, Recess, co-founded with her husbandAsser Malik, aims to support professional and amateur teams in increasing women’s participation worldwide. The duo will begin their efforts in the WNBA and NWSL, as both leagues have “huge potential” for growth, Yousafzai explains. Billie Jean King is among those contributing to the initiative as an advisor.

The S&P 500 hit a new all-time high on Friday, gaining 0.5% to close the week at 6,173.07, topping the previous high made in Feb. 19. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq also gained 0.5% to mark its own record high, the first since Dec. 16 of last year. Meanwhile, the third major U.S. index, the Dow, also rose 432 points on Friday, though it remains roughly 1,200 points behind its all-time high. All three recorded their biggest weekly gains in six weeks.

Temple University is offering students the chance to enroll in a course centered on chart-topping rapper Kendrick Lamar this fall. “Kendrick Lamar and the Morale of M.A.A.D City” will be taught by Professor Timothy Welbeck, who will welcome guests and industry insiders who have worked alongside Lamar to provide unique insight into K Dot’s career and the music industry as a whole. The class will be available for the Fall 2025 semester.

The Atlassian Williams Racing Formula 1 team and AllSaints have agreed to a multi-year licensing deal, with the first limited-edition drop to occur ahead of the British Grand Prix, the team’s home race. The nine-piece capsule is inspired by the excitement of race day and archival race suits from Williams’ past, but reimagined for utilitarian-driven outwear featuring statement graphics.
