Cristiano Ronaldo Launches Film Venture in Latest Media Move
Soccer great Cristiano Ronaldo has teamed up with filmmaker Matthew Vaughn to launch an independent film studio, UR Marv. The duo plans to release a trilogy of action films, with two of them already financed and produced and a third in the works. Vaughn’s directorial portfolio includes the Kingsman franchise, Kick-Ass, and X-Men: First Class. This is the latest media move by Ronaldo, who launched a YouTube channel — UR Cristiano — last August, racking up over 74 million subscribers.
Prada Acquires Versace in $1.4B Deal
Prada has agreed to purchase fellow Italian luxury fashion house Versace from Capri Holdings in a deal valued at $1.4 billion. Versace now joins Miu Miu, Luna Rossa, the America’s Cup sailing team, and Marchesi 1824 under the Prada Group umbrella. “We aim to continue Versace’s legacy celebrating and re-interpreting its bold and timeless aesthetic,” said Prada Chairman Patrizio Bertelli of the deal.
‘Saturday Night Live’ is Coming to the UK Via Sky, NBC Partnership
UK broadcaster Sky confirmed Thursday that a British version of Saturday Night Live is in the works via a partnership between Sky and NBC. The program will still be produced by show creator Lorne Michaels and will feature an A-list lineup of hosts and musical guests. Saturday Night Live UK will premiere in 2026 on Sky Max and the streaming service NOW.
Inflation Eases to 2.4%, Prices Fall for First Time Since May 2020
The inflation rate eased to 2.4% in March — down from 2.8% in February — after the Consumer Price Index fell 0.1% last month. This is the first time since May 2020 that prices dropped on a monthly basis. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics added that inflation cooled last month partly due to lower fuel prices, with gasoline plunging 9.8% year-over-year.
MLS Eyes 2027 After Delaying Schedule Changes
Major League Soccer has decided not to make any changes to its schedule before 2027, the league announced Thursday. The Board of Governors got together to discuss the possibility of aligning the MLS season with the international calendar but came to the conclusion that more planning was required. MLS will explore potentially matching schedules as early as 2027, as well as possible changes to the regular season and postseason.
‘Carrie’ TV Series is Coming to Amazon’s Prime Video
The forthcoming Carrie television series is a go, with Prime Video officially picking it up for an eight-episode run. Mike Flanagan, who directed The Haunting of Hill House, Gerald’s Game, and Doctor Sleep, will take on the heavy load of executive producer, showrunner, and writer and will also direct select episodes. With production set to begin this summer in Vancouver, Summer H. Howell is reportedly closing in on talks to play the titular role.
Spike Lee, Denzel Washington Film to Premiere at Cannes
Spike Lee‘s new project starring Denzel Washington, Highest 2 Lowest, will debut out of competition in Cannes, the festival announced Thursday. An English-language reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 Japanese film High and Low, Apple Original Films and A24 are partnering on the crime thriller, with A24 releasing the film theatrically before its global launch on Apple TV+.
FIFA Donating $1M to Club World Cup Host Cities
FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced Thursday that the soccer governing body will donate $1 million to each of the 11 cities hosting matches during this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup. The gift will go toward constructing mini-FIFA pitches and supporting social initiatives to drive football and promote community engagement across the United States.

Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society to Adapt Horror Novel for the Big Screen
The horror novel The House of Last Resort has been ordered by Michael B. Jordan’s production firm, Outlier Society, for film development. Jordan will be a producer for the film based on the book written by New York Times bestselling author Christopher Golden. This is the latest horror project from Jordan, who stars in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners movie releasing later this month.
