Dwyane Wade Grows Pro Sports Portfolio, Joins Sky Ownership

Dwyane Wade just added to his sports ownership empire. On Friday, it was revealed the 2023 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee officially joined the Chicago Sky ownership group. This isn’t a shocking revelation, as the three-time NBA Finals champion is both a native of the Windy City and a Sky supporter. Wade’s exact stake in the team has not been revealed, but the WNBA team will be the third pro sports franchise the former Miami Heat star has invested in. Wade is already a part owner of the Utah Jazz and MLS club Real Salt Lake.

Boardroom’s Russell Steinberg has more on Wade joining the Sky ownership group.

Premier League Ditches Nike for Puma, Ending 25-year Match Ball Partnership

After 25 years, Nike and the Premier League are going their separate ways on one major aspect of the game. Moving forward, production of the official Premier League matchday footballs will now move to Puma. Nike has produced the official ball since the 2000-01 campaign, and the upcoming season will be the final time fans will see the Swoosh on the pitch. Nike had the opportunity to extend its contract, but The Athletic writes negotiations were unsuccessful. Puma currently supplies official match balls for Serie A and La Liga, as well as the English Football League.

Taylor Swift's 'Eras Tour' Is Good For Your Local Economy

The Taylor Swift Eras Tour is not only reuniting Swifties with their favorite artist, but it’s also providing a significant jump to local economies. The Philadelphia Federal Reserve dropped its annual Beige Book on Wednesday, and officials wrote that hotel bookings had their strongest growth in years thanks to fans staying overnight for the show. “Despite the slowing recovery in tourism in the region overall, one contact highlighted that May was the strongest month for hotel revenue in Philadelphia since the onset of the pandemic, in large part due to an influx of guests for the Taylor Swift concerts in the city,” they added. When the “Exile” singer touched down in Chicago last month for two shows at Soldier Field, it actually broke city hotel occupancy records, with more than 44,000 hotel rooms occupied each night and $39 million in total hotel revenue.

Major Hollywood Productions Shut Down Due to SAG-AFTRA Strike

It’s been less than 24 hours since the SAG-AFTRA strike became official, and highly anticipated films have already halted production while negotiations continue. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel’s Deadpool 3, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel, and Tom Cruise’s eighth Mission: Impossible movie are some of the films currently on pause. On the bright side, an area where work could possibly move forward is animation, especially for projects with an estimated 2025 release date. As is the norm, animators could have individuals around their studio temporarily record their voices to help bring the concept to life, while the union actors step in and record their lines at a later period.

Rich Paul, sports agent and founder of Klutch Sports Group, dropped a fresh capsule line with New Balance, and the theme is all about the memories of yesteryear. The “Forever Yours” merch line pays homage to the youthful feeling of intense affection, whether it’s for the game or that special someone. The 550 combines the elevated material construction with hues of purple, pink, and navy blue, alongside the standard leather upper swapped out for suede in a bold shade of purple. This drops builds on Rich Paul and New Balance’s past collaborations, after working together to launch the sportswear brand, Klutch Athletics, earlier this year. The Rich Paul x New Balance Forever Yours collection is available globally at select retailers and online.

Jay-Z Honored with Special Exhibit at Brooklyn Public Library

If you knew that the extra-large lyrics on display outside the Brooklyn Public Library belonged to Jay-Z, then you’ll enjoy what’s inside the venue even more. An exhibit called “The Book of HOV” opened Friday, and it highlights the remarkable path and impact the Grammy-winning rapper has had on the music industry, social justice, and the world, in general. The display is presented through chapters, with guests stepping through each era of his life accompanied by visuals, audio stories, and physical artifacts. It’s free for anyone with a library card — the library has created 13 different designs, one for each of the legend’s albums. For those unable to visit, the entire exhibit is available online at thebookofhov.com.
