Netflix Announces Dallas Cowboys Docuseries Detailing ‘Soap Opera’ of Jerry Jones’ Ownership Era
Jerry Jones’ tenure as owner of the Dallas Cowboys is the subject of a new docuseries from Netflix dropping next year. The streaming platform unveiled the trailer for America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys on Thursday. It features appearances from Jones himself and football legends including Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, and Jimmy Johnson, as well as former President George W. Bush, Nike founder Phil Knight, and more. Per Netflix, the 10-part program chronicles “a decade-plus journey, led by Jones’ intrepid business moves, that revolutionized global sports and resulted in three NFL titles.”
Global Box Office Expected to Hit $33 Billion in 2025
With millions embracing the movie theater experience once again, data obtained by Variety from Gower Street Analytics estimates that international box office profits could reach $33 billion next year. This is an 8% rise as compared to earlier projections of $30.5 million. In North America specifically, the forecast is $9.7 billion, a 9% jump from this year. 2025 looks to continue the upward trend with hotly-anticipated films coming to theaters next year including new additions to the Avatar, John Wick, and Marvel franchises, as well as the sequel to Zootopia.
Alicia Keys to Receive Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at Grammys
Ahead of the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 2, organizers for music’s biggest night announced that Alicia Keys will be recognized with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the Recording Academy Honors. Established in 2023, the prize “recognize[s] artists whose influence extends far beyond music,” Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, lauded Keys’ timeless music, artistry, and influence on the culture as catalysts for the accolade. Previous recipients of the award Dr. Dre himself and Jay-Z.
WNBA Taps Reebok as League-authorized Footwear Supplier for WNBA
The WNBA shared Thursday that they’ve reached a multi-year agreement with Reebok, making the shoe and apparel brand an authorized footwear supplier for the league. The company joins Nike, New Balance, and others as players’ on-court options. “I’m happy to see the WNBA and Reebok supporting one another because I know that together we’re so much stronger and our reach is so much further,” said Angel Reese, Chicago Sky star and Reebok athlete. The Boston-based brand also has Los Angeles Sparks guard Lexie Brown as an ambassador.
Questlove Directs SNL Music Documentary, Gets January Air Date
Performing on Saturday Night Live is a sure indicator of a musician’s cultural relevancy, and a new documentary will feature untold stories behind iconic gigs, sketches, and cameos of the show’s musical guests over the past 50 years. Directed by Questlove and Oz Rodriguez, who served as a segment director on SNL, Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music will feature interviews and appearances from Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish & Finneas, Mick Jagger, Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Timberlake, and others. The special airs on Jan. 27 on NBC.
Disney+ and TGL Announce New Media Partnership for International Coverage
In the run-up to the inaugural season of TGL next month, the emerging golf league announced Thursday that Disney+ has secured exclusive rights to live-stream the coverage of every match of the league’s 2025 and 2026 seasons for international coverage. Per the release, matches will be live-streamed exclusively on Disney+ in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland, and included as part of the viewer’s Disney+ subscription. Stateside, TGL will be shown on Disney-owned ESPN and ESPN+. The season begins on Jan. 7 at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens.
Kid Cudi Confirms Official Release Date for Memoir
Kid Cudi revealed via Instagram that his forthcoming autobiography is called Cudi: The Memoir, telling his 3.3 million followers the first draft is ready. Published by Simon & Schuster, the company did not reveal a cover yet, but did say the book will be available for purchase on Aug. 5, 2025. In sharing his excitement, Cudder added that pre-orders for the project are officially open.
NFL Adds a Game Show and Punting Contest to Pro Bowl Skills Competitions
The NFL is adding a game show and a punting contest to its Pro Bowl skills competitions in February, the league said on Thursday. Called “Helmet Harmony,” the game show will quiz the players’ knowledge of their teammates. The other exercise, “Punt Perfect,” will feature one punter and one non-punter from each conference attempting to place the most footballs into a set of six buckets in the end zone. Scheduled for Feb 2., festivities will take place at Central Florida and finish with a 7v7 flag football game between the AFC and NFC.
