The WNBA has awarded three new expansion teams to Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia, the league announced on Monday, bringing its total to 18 franchises. Cleveland is set to tip off in 2028, followed by Detroit in 2029 and Philadelphia in 2030. Multiple reports have indicated that each team will pay a record expansion fee of $250 million. In other WNBA news, the league revealed the starters for the All-Star Game next month in Indiana: Caitlin Clark, Napheesa Collier, Aliyah Boston, Paige Bueckers, Allisha Gray, Sabrina Ionescu, Nneka Ogwumike, Satou Sabally, Breanna Stewart, and A’ja Wilson.

F1: The Movie starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris finished its debut weekend at the top of the box office, grossing $55.6 million in North America for Apple’s biggest theatrical opening to date. The $144 million worldwide total also marked the biggest opening of Pitt’s illustrious career, topping World War Z‘s $112 million (not adjusted for inflation), while putting the film on track to overtake Napoleon ($221 million) as Apple’s highest-earning production. 

As part of its massive five-year renovation plan and ongoing efforts to address overcrowding, the renowned Musée du Louvre in Paris has recently launched an international architectural competition to expand its space. Contestants are tasked with designing the entrance and exhibition space for the “Mona Lisa,” which will be around 33,000 square feet. Five finalists will be selected by a 21-person jury in October, with the winner revealed early next year. 

It only took 23 shows, but Kendrick Lamar and SZA officially have the highest-grossing joint tour in history, with the Grand National Tour generating $254.6 million and selling 1.1 million tickets on its North American leg alone. And the tour isn’t over yet, with upcoming dates in Europe, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and South America.

Billionaire businesswoman Michele Kang is taking over as CEO and President of Olympique Lyonnais, a seven-time French champion better known as Lyon. A member of the OL board since 2023, Kang is already a majority owner of OL Lyonnes, Lyon’s women’s team. She will lead the club’s appeal of its recent relegation to Ligue 2 due to financial issues, which ultimately led to the previous president, John Textor, resigning.  

After nearly two decades, EA Sports is reviving its college basketball video game, confirming the news on social media Monday. Per Extra Points’ Matt Brown, the targeted release is scheduled for 2028. Division 1 men’s and women’s programs, which total about 730 teams, have until July 18 to approve being in the game. The news comes on the heels of EA’s successful relaunch of the College Football franchise last year.

Travis Scott is the latest celebrity to partner with upscale grocery chain Erewhon on a smoothie. Named after his daughter Stormi, the “Storm Storm Smoothie” includes pineapple, banana, spinach, coconut, dragonfruit powder, and more, all personally chosen by the rapper. Erewhon has previously partnered with notable figures such as Kourtney Kardashian, Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber, and others. A portion of sales is expected to go toward Scott’s nonprofit, the Cactus Jack Foundation.

Basketball Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson will be the recipient of the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage at the 2025 ESPYs on July 16, while Penn State women’s volleyball coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley is set to receive the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance. Additionally, ESPN revealed that the recipients of this year’s Pat Tillman Award for Service will be David Walters and Erin Regan, two former athletes and current Greater Los Angeles first responders. 

During a surprise appearance at FuelFest in California over the weekend, Vin Diesel teased what fans can expect from the expected final film of the Fast & Furious franchise, including a potential appearance from Paul Walker, who passed away in a car crash in 2013. In addition to revealing that the film could drop in April 2027, Diesel claims he committed to the movie under three conditions: bringing it back to L.A., returning to car culture, and reuniting his character, Dom, with the late Walker’s character, Brian.

The visual companion to Miley Cyrus‘ latest album, Something Beautiful, is coming to Disney+ and Hulu next month. Viewers in the United States can catch it on July 16, while those tuning in from EMEA, LATAM, and APAC can begin streaming the project on July 30. Described as “a one-of-a-kind pop opera fueled by fantasy,” it will also feature 13 original new songs from her new album.
