Apple TV+ Announces Messi-centered Inter Miami CF Docuseries

The Messi effect continues. Apple TV+ announced that it will release an upcoming docuseries centered on Lionel Messi’s journey to joining Inter Miami CF. The six-part documentary will focus on Messi’s debut with the team as part of the Leagues Cup. Smuggler Entertainment signed on to produce the series. Additionally, Tim Pastore, Patrick Milling Smith, Brian Carmody, and Matt Renner will serve as executive producers, all of whom were involved in the 2018 smash documentary Free Solo.

Tom Brady Steps out as Birmingham City Owner

Tom Brady is in his ownership era. The seven-time Super Bowl champion stepped out as the newest minority member of the Birmingham City FC ownership group. He looked to lock in with local fans, showing up at a nearby pub before the game. Then, he met with players and coaches to deliver a rousing pregame speech. Birmingham City took the match 1-0 over Leeds United.

French Montana Links with Larry Jackson’s gamma

Longtime music executive and recent Billboard cover star Larry Jackson is looking to change the music industry with his billion-dollar-backed company gamma. It announced that it inked a deal with French Montana after he turned down a $20 million deal with an unnamed label. Jackson celebrated the platinum artist, praising his music and his upcoming documentary and called him “the best hip-hop A&R of the past decade.” Montana aligns with gamma’s efforts to expand its footprint across Africa, for which it has also enlisted Naomi Campbell as a special advisor to Africa and the Middle East.

Travis Scott Holds on to No. 1 Spot of Billboard 200

Travis Scott is heading out on the road. The Houston rapper teased his upcoming Utopia Tour on his Instagram last week. While tickets and dates are not yet available, Scott is taking his spot atop the Billboard 200. Utopia clocked in at No. 1 for the second straight week with the equivalent of 147,000 in album sales. With the honor, Scott becomes the first rapper to sit in the top spot for two consecutive weeks since Drake following the release of Certified Lover Boy during Fall 2021.

‘Barbie’ Lands Top Box Office Spot for Fourth Consecutive Week

The summer of Barbie continues. The Greta Gerwig production took over the No. 1 spot in domestic box office sales for the fourth consecutive week. Globally, it has taken in $1.18 billion in ticket sales, putting it in elite company in the billion dollar club. Meg 2 is an international surprise, having taken in $202.8 million fueled by a particularly strong showing in China. Oppenheimer also continues to shine, as it notched $649 million in the same stretch as Barbie. 

Drake Teases 'Top Boy' Finale Trailer

Top Boy is headed to Netflix for its final season. The Drake-backed series will wrap after its fifth season premieres. The final season will hit the streaming giant on Sept. 7. Elsewhere, executive producer Ronan Bennett took to his Twitter to tease: “No. Loose. Ends… The Final Chapter.” The show first debuted on Channel 4 in 2011 and was canceled in 2013. However, it was revived by Netflix and brought Drake, who was a long-time fan of the show, on as a producer.
