The U.S. government shutdown entered its 22nd day on Wednesday, making it the second-longest in history, with no resolution in sight. Both of the longest shutdowns have occurred during President Donald Trump’s tenure. This shutdown began due to Senate Democrats blocking a short-term funding bill lacking extra health care spending, while Republicans hold a slim Senate majority but need 60 votes to pass legislation. Multiple stopgap measures, including a military-only funding bill, have failed in the Senate, with no vote scheduled as of Wednesday morning.
