Houston hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion will take the stage at New York’s UBS Arena as host of the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. Megan, who has already been nominated for five awards, will emcee the event on Sept. 11 while the likes of Lenny KravitzChappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter perform. The show will air live on MTV at 8 p.m. ET.

Search engine turned tech giant Google is investing money and resources to keep California journalism jobs alive. Headlining a first-of-its-kind $250 million deal with the Golden State, Google is part of a five-year proposed bill that could necessitate spending from fellow tech companies to pay news outlets for advertising when appearing in articles on the search engine.

On Thursday morning, the NWSL and NWSL Players Association (NWSLPA) announced that it agreed to terms on a historic new collective bargaining agreement extending to 2030. The new “transformational” deal will see the NWSL eliminate the draft, guarantee contracts with significant pay increases, and grant unrestricted free agency to all players, among other things. “It was very, very important to secure every player’s right to control their own destiny [and] to have autonomy over their careers,” NWSLPA Executive Director Meghann Burke told Boardroom.

Building equity with a younger consumer base, Nike has announced a multi-year collaborative initiative with creative play company LEGO. According to a press release, the partnership is said to yield a “series of co-branded products, content, and experiences” starting in 2025. Previously, LEGO has worked in collaboration with Adidas on footwear and apparel.

Ahead of the re-release of Days Before Rodeo, Travis Scott is returning to his roots with a limited-capacity concert. Taking place in Atlanta, the place where DBR was recorded, the 10-year-anniversary outing at Masquerade will play the 2014 project in full and host 1,000 fans. This show follows Scott’s announcement at Fanatics Fest that DBR would release on streaming for the first time ever, with Spotify powering this special event.

Bob Iger may not be leaving Disney until 2026, but the company is already taking steps to select his successor. On Thursday, Disney’s board named Morgan Stanley’s James Gorman as chair of its Succession Planning Committee to find a CEO replacement for Iger. Gorman recently oversaw a similar succession process at Morgan Stanley. Per Disney, internal candidates are currently going through “a preparation process that includes mentorship from Disney CEO Robert A. Iger, external coaching, and engagement with all Board directors.” Variety writes that Disney Entertainment Co-chairs Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro, and Head of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Josh D’Amaro are all being considered as internal candidates. 

Summer isn’t over yet, which means Sabrina Carpenter isn’t done dropping music. The “Please, Please, Please” singer teased a never-before-heard song called “Taste” with Instagram‘s newest music feature on Thursday morning. Following in the footsteps of MySpace, IG users will be able to select a song as part of their profile bio. Fans can head to Carpenter’s official profile to hear the song before it goes away, as it won’t be teased again until her upcoming Short n’ Sweet album.
