Saquon Barkley Jumps onto ‘Madden NFL 26’ Cover
The iconic backwards hurdle Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley performed over a defender last year is officially the cover of Madden NFL 26, EA Sports announced Monday. The reigning AP Offensive Player of the Year was also named to the Madden 99 Club, a first for an Eagles offensive player and the team’s first club member in 20 years. Available for pre-order, Madden NFL 26 is set to release on Aug. 14.
Dior Hands All Creative Control to Jonathan Anderson
Dior confirmed Monday the appointment of Jonathan Anderson as the first-ever sole creative director for the men’s, women’s, and couture collections since Christian Dior himself. Anderson will present his first menswear collection for the company on June 27, while his inaugural womenswear collection will debut during Paris Fashion Week in October. Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, called Anderson “one of the greatest creative talents of his generation.”
Megan Thee Stallion Partners with Prime Video for New Anime Series
Megan Thee Stallion is teaming up with Prime Video on another new project, this time a new anime series. Meg shared the news at DreamCon in Houston while cosplaying as Bleach character Yoruichi Shihōin. A huge anime fan herself, the Grammy Award winner was mum on additional details, but did reveal she collaborated with The Boondocks producer Carl Jones for the program.
Lids, ‘Made for the W’ Honor WNBA with New Era Drop
Lids and Made for the W, a media and lifestyle platform amplifying women’s sports and sneaker culture, dropped a new capsule with New Era on Monday that celebrates each WNBA team’s inaugural season. The exclusive hat collection, which will include expansion team Golden State Valkyries, features two-tone fitted caps with a side patch marking the team’s debut year, as well as Made for the W‘s logo over the eyelet. The full line drops on Tuesday at noon ET.
Sydney Sweeney’s ‘Split Fiction’ Finds a Home at Amazon
Split Fiction, the feature adaptation of the popular video game starring Sydney Sweeney and directed by Jon M. Chu, has been acquired by Amazon MGM Studios for a reported $2 million. Screenplay will be penned by Deadpool & Wolverine writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, as the film follows two authors who become trapped in the worlds they wrote and must work together to escape the surreal surroundings of sci-fi and fantasy.
Bill Gates to Donate a ‘Majority’ of $200B Fortune to Africa
After announcing last month that he would donate his fortune over the next two decades, Bill Gates revealed Monday that a “majority” of the $200 billion will go toward development and innovation in Africa. “The goals here are pretty basic. They really speak to our values. Mothers should survive delivery. Babies should survive past their fifth birthday, kids should be well nourished,” Gates said at an Inspiring Progress event in Ethiopia.
Byron Allen Looks to Sell Portfolio of Local TV Stations
In an effort to lower its $1.5 billion debt, Byron Allen is putting his broadcast TV stations up for sale. According to Bloomberg, the businessman’s Allen Media Group owns and operates 28 broadcast TV stations across 21 markets, affiliated with ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox. The firm has retained investment bank Moelis & Co to help facilitate the sale, adding they’ve already “received numerous inquiries and written offers.”
‘Lilo & Stitch’ Remains on Top, ‘Karate Kid’ Debuts Below Expectations
This weekend’s box office once again belonged to Lilo & Stitch, with the flick ruling domestically with a $63 million haul. The live-action blockbuster by Disney officially surpasses Sinners as the second-largest theatrical release of the year. Arriving in second once again is Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning with $27.3 million across 3,861 theaters. Meanwhile, over its debut weekend, Karate Kid: Legends opened to a $21 million result, lower than projections.
StockX Hires New Head of Creative
Daniel De Jesus Krueger is the new Vice President and Head of Creative at StockX, the company announced Monday. Krueger comes from Fulwell Entertainment (formerly The Springhill Company), where he led creative and branding for The Shop. Before that, he led the Nike Brand Studio at Uninterrupted. In his new role at StockX, Krueger will lead its global creative direction, continuing to strengthen the brand’s image through storytelling.
‘King of the Hill’ Set for August Release on Hulu
The revival of long-running animated series King of the Hill finally has a release date on Hulu. After announcing the reboot over two years ago, the streamer revealed that the new 14th season is set to drop on Aug. 4 after 15 years off the air. The new King of the Hill is a continuation of the original show, which ran on Fox from 1997 to 2010.
