Michael B. Jordan Honored with American Cinematheque Award
Michael B. Jordan is this year’s recipient of the American Cinematheque Award, given annually to someone in the industry who “is committed to making a significant contribution to the art of the motion pictures.” Past recipients of the award include Spike Lee, Reese Witherspoon, and Jessica Chastain. “Most recently, his outstanding performances (yes, two performances) in the worldwide smash Sinners have cemented his place in the upper tier of movie stars, now and in the future,” said American Cinematheque board chair Rick Nicita.
Tom Brady to Open ‘Hall of Excellence’ Memorabilia Museum in Las Vegas
Tom Brady is teaming up with veteran sportscaster Jim Gray on a new memorabilia museum at Fontainebleau Las Vegas on June 20. Called the Hall of Excellence, some items that visitors can expect to see on display are Michael Jordan‘s first pair of Air Jordans, Kobe Bryant‘s game jersey from his first nationally televised game, a golf ball from Tiger Woods‘ first Masters win in 1997, and more. The self-guided tour is narrated by Morgan Freeman.
Google Teams Up with Warby Parker in $150M Smart Glasses Deal
Google is teaming up with Warby Parker to create a series of smart glasses, creating an eventual rival to the popular Ray-Ban Meta. The Big Tech company is contributing up to $150 million as part of the deal, having already committed $75 million to product development, with up to an additional $75 million going to Warby should it hit “certain collaboration milestones.” The first line is expected to come after 2025, per the release.
Boston Legacy FC to Play Debut Season at Patriots’ Gillette Stadium
The NWSL‘s newest expansion club will be calling a familiar territory home. In a statement to The Athletic, Boston Legacy FC confirmed its home games will be played at Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots and New England Revolution, when they kick off in 2026. The club said delays in its permanent venue, White Stadium, prompted the change, but that it will return to its original plan for the 2027 season once the $200 million renovation is complete.
OpenAI Makes Largest Purchase Ever, Buys Jony Ive’s AI Startup for $6.5B
OpenAI has reached a roughly $6.5 billion deal to acquire former Apple designer Jony Ive’s AI devices startup io in an all-equity transaction that includes its current stake in the company. Responsible for designing some of Apple’s most iconic products like the iPod, iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Air, Ive and his co-founders will work with OpenAI to “develop, engineer, and manufacture a new family of products.” This is the largest purchase in OpenAI’s history.
Chanel Sales Decline Amid Luxury Downturn
Chanel‘s annual sales declined for the first time since 2020, with the French fashion house reporting a 4.3% revenue decrease in 2024 to $18.7 billion and a 30% tumble in operating profits to $4.5 billion. As a result, CFO Philippe Blondiaux said the company has agreed to delay price hikes in the U.S. for its fashion products pending a final resolution in the ongoing tariff controversy.
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills to be Featured on ‘Hard Knocks’
HBO has found its next Hard Knocks subject: reigning MVP Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell revealed the news on Wednesday, with HBO confirming that Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills will arrive on Aug. 5. Goodell also announced that the in-season version of the show will follow one of the most exciting divisions in the league — the NFC East.
Art Basel is Headed to Qatar in 2026
Art Basel is headed to Qatar next year, organizers of the world’s largest presentation of modern and contemporary art confirmed. The new fair will be held in February 2026 in Doha’s M7 creative hub and the city’s Design District, near the National Museum of Qatar. Unlike the Miami edition sprawled across the city, the newest installment is labeled as a tightly curated showcase highlighting a select group of leading galleries and artists.
ESPN’s ‘SportsCenter’ to Hit All 50 States in 50 Days
ESPN’s flagship show SportsCenter is hitting the road this year. SportsCenter: 50 States in 50 Days begins June 27 and will visit a different state each day for 50 consecutive days. Programming will feature live portions in addition to storytelling segments. This is the first time in two decades that SportsCenter has attempted a nationwide tour of this caliber.
TikTok Adds SoundCloud to ‘Add to Music App’ Feature
TikTok users can now save songs directly to their SoundCloud accounts after the companies announced their partnership on Wednesday. The “Add to Music App” function was previously only available for streaming platforms Spotify and Apple Music. Since rolling out the initiative last year, TikTok said that more than a billion songs have been saved to streaming services. The artist-first SoundCloud boasts over 400 million tracks from more than 40 million artists on its platform.
