Ovechkin signed this most recent deal back in 2021, and because he isn’t getting any younger, he’s placed an emphasis on locking up as much as he could up front. Of the $47.5 million promised, $34.5 million was via signing bonus, though the full amount is guaranteed throughout the lifespan of the deal as long as “The Great Eight” remains active.

This deal came after Ovechkin’s 13-year contract signed in 2008 finally expired ahead of the 2021 campaign. His previous contract worth $124 million over those 13 years was the first $100 million-plus contract hockey had ever seen.
