Bubba Wallace Lives to Be Different

Last Updated: April 26, 2023
The NASCAR star’s Drivers Fore! Change event, presented in collaboration with pro golfer Harold Varner III, runs through Sept. 20 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The premier event on Bubba Wallace’s busy 2022 calendar will not take place at a NASCAR raceway. Rather, the Concord, North Carolina native will be hitting the golf course for his “Drivers Fore! Change” celebrity charity golf tournament this week. In collaboration with former PGA Tour member and current LIV Golf competitor Harold Varner III’s HV3 Foundation, the event runs through Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Providence Country Club in Charlotte.

As Wallace’s main priority is racing, he recruited his sister, Brittany Gillispie, to run his Live to be Different Foundation. She came on board in 2020 to help her brother leave a lasting legacy off the track the same way he is building one on it.

“Growing up, Bubba has always been one of the most humble people,” she said. “Just being able to impact the community and give back while he can is self-rewarding, especially to see other people reach their full potential. Bubba wants to be a part of that.”

Gillispie told Boardroom since her brother spoke up about the injustices that occurred in 2020 he and his foundation have been reaping the benefits ever since. The advocacy has resulted in Wallace gaining more fame, recognition and sponsorships. Some of his endorsements include Leidos and Cash App.

One day before the event, Gillispie and Wallace will host a pairings party at the NASCAR Hall of Fame to divide up the competitors into teams.

As for what’s next, Gillispie has her mind set on other initiatives too. “I’m looking forward to everyone supporting Bubba and Harold and our foundations. Knowing that you have that love and support and they share your vision means the world to me,” she said. “[In the future] I’m interested in doing a gala or a 5K race in addition to implementing some mental health programs in schools or iRacing to some of the kids but nothing is set in stone yet.”
