Michael has become the highest-grossing biopic in box office history, earning $977 million worldwide and surpassing Oppenheimer‘s $975 million haul. The Antoine Fuqua-directed film, starring Michael Jackson‘s nephew Jaafar Jackson, has generated $370.2 million domestically and $607.2 million internationally since its April release as it closes in on the billion-dollar mark. The milestone also makes it Lionsgate‘s biggest movie ever, eclipsing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, with the studio reportedly planning at least one sequel.

Former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Thrive Capital founder Joshua Kushner are exploring a bid for the NBA‘s expected expansion franchise in Las Vegas. The pair have reportedly hired investment bankers and plan to pursue a majority stake through Thrive Eternal, Kushner’s long-term investment vehicle. The move follows the NBA’s decision to formally explore expansion in Las Vegas and Seattle, signaling intensifying competition for what could become one of sports’ most valuable franchises.

Will Ferrell is bringing his fictional golfer alter ego, Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, off the fairway and into fashion as the face of SKIMS‘ latest menswear campaign. The collaboration, narrated by Kim Kardashian, doubles as a marketing push for Ferrell’s upcoming Netflix comedy series, The Hawk, which premieres July 16 and follows the story of an aging golf star’s unlikely PGA Tour comeback. The crossover highlights SKIMS’ continued strategy of tapping sports-inspired storytelling and celebrity partnerships to market its expanding menswear line.

New York City is commemorating the Knicks‘ first NBA championship in 53 years by temporarily co-naming Manhattan streets after every player on the title-winning roster. Announced by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the blue-and-orange street signs match each player’s jersey number with a corresponding street and will remain in place for four weeks, creating a championship trail celebrating one of the most memorable playoff runs in franchise history.

Staying in the NBA, the Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly trading star guard Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray. The deal ends Morant’s tenure as a franchise cornerstone in Memphis, where injuries, suspensions, and inconsistency limited his availability in recent seasons. Portland adds a two-time All-Star to a roster that includes Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday, while Memphis moves into a rebuild centered on 2026 No. 3 pick Cameron Boozer.

Comcast announced plans to spin off NBCUniversal and Sky into a separate publicly traded company, further splitting its media and cable businesses. The tax-free separation, expected within a year, will give shareholders stakes in both entities. NBCUniversal will include Peacock, NBC, Universal Studios, and Sky, while Comcast retains its broadband and cable operations. Visit Rwanda has named top 2026 NBA Draft pick and Bucks rookie Nate Ament its first global basketball ambassador, partnering with the Rwandan-rooted forward to promote the country’s tourism and youth basketball development. Ament will appear in international marketing campaigns and community initiatives, including clinics and mentorship programs. Sam Kerr has rejoined Gotham FC, signing through the 2030 season after leaving Chelsea as a free agent. Speaking of reunions, Mike Golic Sr. and Mike Golic Jr. are returning to ESPN Radio to host a new show, The Golics, beginning Aug. 3 ahead of the NFL season. The father-son duo will reunite on air in a weekday morning slot after previously co-hosting multiple ESPN programs, including Mike & Mike and Golic & Wingo. Their latest partnership marks a return to the network for both, re-establishing one of ESPN Radio’s most recognizable family pairings.

Peacock is expanding its distribution by joining YouTube Primetime Channels, allowing users to subscribe to its Premium Plus, ad-free tier. The move brings NBCUniversal’s streaming service onto one of the largest subscription marketplaces alongside platforms like Prime Video and Roku. The deal includes access to major programming such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup and upcoming NBA and NFL coverage, as NBCUniversal pushes to grow Peacock’s subscriber base.
