IShowSpeed is Aiming for the Moon

Last Updated: July 26, 2024
Boardroom chops it up with IShowSpeed to talk about racing Tyreek Hill, fighting Kai Cenat, what he’d be doing if not for streaming, and more.

Rewind less than five years, and IShowSpeed was living a completely different life.

Having first posted gaming content to YouTube in 2019, it was a slow burn for the popular internet personality. It wasn’t until the summer of 2021 that Darren Jason Watkins Jr. really saw his platform take off, gaining nearly a million subscribers in the span of just a few months.

Now, in 2024, IShowSpeed is one of the most-followed people out there, boasting over 28 million followers on TikTok, nearly 27 million subscribers on YouTube, and 21 million followers on Instagram. Most recently, he’s had a dubious brush with Cristiano Ronaldo, signed a contract with AC Milan, and even sat down alongside Kevin Durant with Logan Paul. Boardroom recently caught up with the YouTuber extraordinaire to talk about racing Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill, fighting Kai Cenat, what he’d be doing if not for streaming, and more.

Faster Than the NFL’s Cheetah?

It’s no secret that Tyreek Hill is widely known as the fastest man in the NFL. So much so that some have wondered how he would fare against some of the world’s fastest sprinters in a race. (For reference, Hill’s best 100-meter dash time is a wind-aided 9.98 seconds; the top 10 times at the most recent USA Track & Field Olympic Trials in the men’s 100-meter dash would have beaten Hill’s mark.)

Even so, IShowSpeed, who claims to have run a 4.4 40-yard dash, isn’t scared to step up to the start line against the Dolphins speedster.

“I’m trying to set it up right now,” the internet star said.

Battle of the Streamers

Just as much as YouTubers have risen over the last half-decade or so, so has the increase in boxing matches between them.

If it were up to IShowSpeed, he’d be throwing his name into the ring against Kai Cenat. He claims Kai doesn’t want to fight him — “he doesn’t want to lose, he’s scared — unless…

“$10 million, he’d do it,” IShowSpeed said.

To the Moon

With an estimated net worth of $10 million at just 19 years old, IShowSpeed never really had to think too hard about what he would do if not for streaming. It’s been all he knows for the last five years.

But Boardroom was curious: What would IShowSpeed do if not for his YouTube fame?

“I wanted to be in astrology or something. Like, universes. I thought that was so cool, like planets and stuff,” he said.
