Chris Licht’s Run at CNN Comes to an End

After a chaotic year at the helm of one of the most popular cable news networks in the country, chief executive and chairman of CNN  relieved Chris Licht of his duties on Wednesday. “I met with Chris and he will be leaving CNN,” David Zaslav, the chief executive of parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, told CNN employees. Having only held his role since May 2022, Licht’s internal conflicts with on-air talent and distrust with employees were just a couple of many catalysts behind his eventual downfall. Zaslav informed team members that the company is “in the process of conducting a wide search,” both internally and externally for a new network chief, adding that the search will “take a while.” In the meantime, a trio of internal execs will take over: talent boss Amy Entelis, editorial head Virginia Moseley, and programming chief Eric Sherling.
