We are just a few weeks away from the 66th Grammy Awards. In advance of music’s biggest night, the Recording Academy announced it second slate of performers. Travis Scott, Burna Boy, and Luke Combs will each hit the stage. Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, and Olivia Rodrigo will also perform.
Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer Breaks College Hoops Coaching Wins Record
College basketball has a new winningest coach. Stanford University’s women’s basketball coach Tara VanDerveer took the title on Sunday with the Cardinals’ 65-56 victory over Oregon State. The win marked her 1,203rd victory, putting her ahead of legendary Duke men’s coach Mike Krzyzewski. Upon the record, VanDerveer pointed to her teams, saying: “I’m very appreciative of all the great players I’ve coached and the great places I’ve been and the attention this brought to women’s basketball.” She took over the coaching position in 1985, and has led Stanford to three national championships.
Justin Bieber, Tate McRae Tapped as NHL All-Star Game Captains
Justin Bieber has a busy weekend ahead at the NHL All-Star Game. The singer was tapped as one of four celebrity captains for the upcoming match-up, set to take place on Feb. 3. He’ll be joined by Tate McRae, Will Arnett, and Michael Bublé. In addition, Bieber’s fashion label drew house teamed up with the league for the game’s custom jerseys.
‘Mean Girls’ Tops Weekend Box Office with $11.7M
Twenty years later and Mean Girls is back on top. The revised edition, starring Renee Rapp, takes a musical approach to the iconic Lindsay Lohan-led 2004 film. In a slow weekend at box offices across the country, the film took in the top spot, grossing $11.7 million in ticket sales. The weekend brought the film’s cumulative total to $50 million domestically.
Kendrick Lamar Provides the Soundtrack to Chanel’s Spring/Summer 24 Campaign Promo, Short Film
Kendrick Lamar is taking his talents to the fashion world. Over the weekend, the Compton rapper provided a new song to a promo for the Parisian fashion house’s upcoming runway show. Lamar’s pgLang partner Dave Free directed the corresponding visual, which features Margaret Qualley, Naomi Campbell, and Anna Mouglalis. Chanel’s Spring-Summer ’24 show will take place on Jan. 23.
