After much anticipation, Jake Paul and Mike Tyson head to the ring next weekend for their boxing battle on Netflix. The matchup is scheduled to take place on Nov. 15 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. Ahead of the main event, Fanatics and Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions announced that they will release a limited-edition trading card set to commemorate the event. Additionally, both Tyson and Paul will sign a select number of the cards. MVP confirmed the news, citing the set as the most recent example of Paul’s ongoing efforts to “bridge the gap between entertainment, sports, and fandom.”

Thanksgiving weekend marks the opening of three of the year’s biggest films — Gladiator 2, Wicked, and Moana 2. Collectively, the three releases are expected to bring in millions of viewers, drawing comparisons to last year’s “Barbenheimer” phenomenon. Ahead of the big release, Moana 2 is projected to set a new record, with analysts projecting that the much-anticipated sequel to the animated favorite will bring in between $125-135 million. The film is expected to take over the current record holder Frozen II, which took in $125 million during the five-day holiday weekend in 2019. 

As expected, the Fed announced an interest rate cut during its pre-scheduled meeting on Thursday. Fed Chair Jerome Powell announced that it will drop the rate from 4.75% to 4.5%, marking the second reduction in the past few months. Powell also confirmed that he will remain in his position even if asked to step down by President-elect Trump, who does not have the power to fire the Fed Chief when he takes office in January. The drop in the interest rate is expected to have a positive trickle-down effect to impact things such as mortgage rates and auto loans.

Lucasfilm has tapped Simon Kinberg for a three-part series of Star Wars films. Kinberg, best known for his work on several X-Men projects and The Martian, will write and produce the movies. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the films will chart a new path and will be separate from the Skywalker series documented by the first nine films, including new characters and central storylines. Kinberg is also working on a re-launch of Star Trek at Paramount. 

Amid recent struggles, Warner Bros. Discovery had a spot of good news. In its most recent earnings call, the company reported that it gained 7.2 million subscribers for its Max streaming service, marking a new record and its first quarterly profit in over two years. The increase brought its global total to over 110 million subscribers. The news drove WBD’s stock up as much as 10% during trading on Thursday. 

Britney Spears inspired a generation of pop stars. After 25 years, her breakout hit has a new accolade: “…Baby One More Time” has joined the coveted YouTube Billions Club, earning over 1 billion viewers of the iconic music video. It is the pop star’s second single to achieve the milestone, following her 2013 single “Scream & Shout” featuring will.i.am. 

Bong Joon Ho captured the imagination of millions with his Oscar Award-winning Parasite. Audiences will have to wait a little longer to see the director’s newest film, Mickey 17, which features an all-star cast including Robert Pattinson, Steven Yuen, and Mark Ruffalo. Warner Bros. announced that the film will now be released in April 2025 to accommodate its recent pushback of the release of its upcoming Michael Jackson biopic to October. The film will be released in traditional theaters as well as IMAX. 

Airbnb surpassed a major milestone this week. Co-founder Brian Chesky confirmed that the company has booked 2 billion guests in the company’s history. On top of that, Airbnb released its Q3 report on Thursday, which included revenues of more than $3.73 billion, posting a 10% year-over-year increase. In a letter to shareholders, executives credited their strategy to focus on new, underdeveloped markets as a key revenue driver. Airbnb also noted that it will expand its company model “beyond accommodations,” teasing that there will be more news to come in 2025. In response to the report, the company’s stock was up as much as 8% in post-market trading.
