Spider-Man: Brand New Day delivered the biggest domestic opening weekend in box office history, earning $360 million after final numbers edged past Avengers: Endgame‘s previous record of $357.1 million. Combined with Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey, which added $51 million in its third weekend, theaters generated a record $430 million across all films, the biggest collective weekend at the box office ever. With Avengers: Doomsday, Dune: Part Three, and other blockbuster releases still ahead, Hollywood’s record-setting box office run may be far from over.

Amazon crossed the $3 trillion market cap milestone for the first time after shares hit a record high following a strong Q2 earnings report. The company posted better-than-expected revenue and profits, fueled by booming demand for AI infrastructure and AWS, which generated $42.2 billion in quarterly revenue. Amazon also raised its 2026 capital spending forecast to $220 billion as it races to expand AI capacity.

Pharrell Williams’ auction platform JOOPITER has launched its first-ever dedicated watch sale, Keeping Measure: Watches & Timepieces. The global digital auction features collectible timepieces from brands including Patek Philippe, OMEGA, Cartier, and Audemars Piguet, spanning vintage icons and modern innovations. MLB‘s trade deadline delivered two major moves as contenders loaded up for the postseason. New York Fashion Week has a new owner. WME has sold the NYFW and NYFW: The Shows trademarks, logos, and social assets to Signet Fashion for an undisclosed sum. The media and entertainment company plans to expand the brand through live events, digital content, partnerships, and year-round programming. The CFDA will continue overseeing the official fashion calendar and schedule, maintaining its role in NYFW governance.

Jaafar Jackson has landed his next major role following his breakout performance as Michael Jackson in the blockbuster biopic Michael. The actor will star alongside Will Smith in Supermax, an action thriller from director David Gordon Green. The Amazon MGM and Miramax film follows FBI agents investigating a murder inside a maximum security prison. Production is expected to begin soon, with a theatrical release planned before the film arrives on Prime Video.

Mahershala Ali steps into a new action role in the first trailer for Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, playing a devout hitman navigating grief, fatherhood, and a dangerous past. Directed by Bassam Tariq, the Amazon MGM film blends emotional family drama with high-stakes action as Ali’s character fights to protect his family. The movie hits select theaters on Sept. 25 before a wider October release.

One of college football’s biggest rivalries is returning. USC and Notre Dame announced a four-game series beginning in 2030, renewing a matchup that dates back to 1926. The schools will shift the rivalry to the start of the season, with the first two games scheduled as Week 1 openers in Los Angeles and South Bend. The move comes after scheduling concerns tied to USC’s transition into the Big Ten and College Football Playoff implications.

The Hollywood Reporter and Sportico are teaming up for a new video franchise, THR’s Game Recognize Game, launching Aug. 26 alongside their joint Sports Issue. The series pairs entertainment stars with top athletes for conversations on fame, ambition, business, and culture. The debut episode features Oscar winner Mahershala Ali and NBA champion Jaylen Brown, followed by actor Belmont Cameli and NHL star Macklin Celebrini in the second installment.
