Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox Boast Highest MLB Valuations

Opening Day for MLB is nearly here and Sportico released its list of the most valuable franchises. Topping the list are the New York Yankees with a $7.93 billion value, an 11% increase compared to last year. They are followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers ($6.3 billion) in second and the Boston Red Sox ($5.96 billion) in third. Rounding out the top five are the Chicago Cubs ($5.31 billion) in fourth and the San Francisco Giants ($4.2 billion) in fifth.

Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference Set for June 10

Apple has finalized the date for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), with a keynote scheduled for June 10, making it the first event the tech giant will hold in 2024. The week-long affair is usually a way for Apple to give audiences a preview of its next major operating system innovations for iOS, macOS, iPadOS, WatchOS, and tvOS. “WWDC is all about sharing new ideas and providing our amazing developers with innovative tools and resources to help them make something even more wonderful,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s VP of Worldwide Developer Relations. During last year’s WWDC, Apple revealed the Vision Pro, its first major hardware product since the Apple Watch was released in 2015.

Women's March Madness is Shattering Viewership Records on ESPN

Just like in the regular season, women’s college basketball continues shattering records during March Madness. Per ESPN, the opening games of the women’s NCAA tournament became the most-consumed first round on record, with 1.5 billion total minutes consumed. Naturally, the showdown between Caitlin Clark‘s Iowa and Holy Cross was the most-viewed first-round game on record, with 3.2 million tuning into the Hawkeyes’ win. The UConn victory over Jackson State registered 1.1 million viewers, making it the third most-viewed first-round game on record. After a few days off, the tournament returns to action on March 29-30 for the Sweet 16.

NFL Sticking With Christmas Day Games in 2024

The NFL announced Tuesday it plans to kick off again on Christmas Day this year with an afternoon slate of games. The holiday falls on a non-traditional football day (Wednesday), but football is still a must in between opening gifts and carving the roast. NFL Vice President of Media Distribution Hans Schroeder confirmed at the annual league meeting that there will be two Christmas Day matchups in 2024. However, he did not reveal the four teams. Last year, fans were treated to three games on the holiday — a surprise Raiders upset against the Chiefs in Kansas City, a mid-afternoon divisional battle between the Giants and Eagles, and in primetime, the Ravens with a statement win against the 49ers.

Formula 1 Miami Taps Guenther Steiner as Ambassador for Grand Prix

Organizers of the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix have teamed up with Netflix‘s Drive to Survive star Guenther Steiner ahead of the May 5 race. Per a Tuesday release, Steiner will serve as Ambassador for this year’s festivities and, in this role, bring even more attention to Formula 1‘s growing dominance in the United States. “I’ve seen first-hand the incredible growth Formula 1 has had in the United States and it has so much potential to continue growing, especially with races like Miami as part of the circuit,” he sad. “The event, which reflects the bold vision of the organizers, pairs American spectacle and F1 racing with a vibrant atmosphere at the track and throughout the city itself.” With nearly 40 years of motorsport experience to his name, Steiner spent 10 years as Team Principal at Haas, the US-based F1 team headquartered in North Carolina.

UFC Star Dustin Poirier Partners with Bud Light

Following his monumental victory at UFC 299 earlier this month in Miami, Dustin Poirier is forming his own partnership with Bud Light, an extension of Bud Light’s presence as the official beer sponsor of UFC as part of a multi-year deal announced in October 2023. “I’m thrilled to cap off my UFC 299 victory by announcing my partnership with Bud Light, the official beer sponsor of the UFC,” said the lightweight contender. “I couldn’t be more excited to join Bud Light’s elite lineup of athlete partners and can’t wait to bring UFC fans some really exciting things both inside and outside the Octagon® this year.” UFC 299 marked the first UFC event featuring Bud Light as the presenting sponsor, including increased branding throughout the competition and more integration into the nationwide ESPN broadcast.
