The crypto leader is hosting a two-month-long campaign to expose more people to the blockchain through new experiences, hackathons, merch, and more.

Coinbase is bringing its OnChain Summer campaign back for a two-month celebration of music, art, gaming, food, and more on the blockchain.
The new campaign kicked off on June 3 and will run through the end of August. The crypto leader launched the first iteration of Onchain Summer last year with over 50 brands, platforms, marketplaces, artists, and creators to commemorate the launch of its Layer 2 Ethereum blockchain, Base. Coinbase announced the return of the campaign with a fun little creative opportunity that called on its community to remix its Onchain Summer billboard image.
Coinbase is hosting and sponsoring multiple projects as part of its OnChain Summer celebration.
Firstly, the crypto leader is calling on all builders and creators to build something new using its Base blockchain and submit it to the Onchain Registry. The limit on what can be built does not exist, as Coinbase is looking for anything from artwork to tradeable digital goods, new social experiences, games, and more that can live in its blockchain ecosystem. Through the creative call, Coinbase is looking for new projects that are accessible with simple onboarding experiences.
Secondly, Coinbase is sponsoring a global online hackathon with Devfolio coined Buildathon through June 30, with 200 in ETH rewards across eight tracks. Between two and 10 teams will be selected as winners for each track, and the only goal is to build experiences that are easily accessible to everyone. Here are the eight categories and their correlating sponsors:
- Payments with Stripe
- Discovery with Fleej
- Creator with Zora
- Social with Farcaster
- Gaming with thirdweb
- Commerce with Spotify
- Unplugged with Nouns
- Trading with Aerodrome and Synthetix
In addition to the 200 ETH rewards, there is a 40 ETH bonus pool for developers who build with Coinbase Smart Wallet, Coinbase Verficiations, Coinbase Paymaster, and OnchainKit. Winners will be announced on July 16.
Apparel designers are also being invited to create merch that will be featured in a new onchain merch store called the Summer Shop. Merch doesn’t have to be Base or Onchain Summer themed to be listed in the virtual shop, and interested sellers can sign here.
