The former All-Pro NFL receiver sits down with Boardroom’s Gabe Oshin to discuss how athletes have reclaimed the culture in sports media, what’s next for his I Am Athlete studio, and more.
During his 13-season, standout career, Brandon Marshall learned almost everything there was to know about the sport of football. The former NFL All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler became one of the first active athletes to take a seat on set, offering his insights and analysis at Inside the NFL. Following his retirement, Marshall made the natural transition into sports media and launched the I Am Athlete platform at the height of the pandemic in 2020.
Now, Marshall is making new moves as he joins Revolt TV to jumpstart Revolt Sports. In the most recent episode of Boardroom Talks, Marshall and Revolt TV CEO Detavio Samuels sit down with Gabe Oshin to discuss their new joint venture. Together, they are setting out to provide their audience with unrivaled access, knowledge of the game, and a peek into the mindset of the professional athlete. Marshall brings his signature candor and unparalleled understanding of the world of sports to offer a unique perspective on everything from athletes’ business pursuits to the seamless blend between culture and sports.
Throughout the conversation, Marshall reflects on the evolution he’s witnessed first-hand in both professional sports and sports media. He unpacks the potential of the athlete entrepreneur and looks back on the challenges he encountered while trying to balance his business, on and off the gridiron. These days, he sees massive potential in the opportunities that athletes have carved out for themselves to connect with audiences through their authentic selves.
Additionally, Marshall shares how he’s found a television mentor in ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, whether or not it’s viable — or even desirable — to be a Black owner in today’s NFL, what the creator economy demands from individuals hoping to find success there, and much more.
