Adidas Reimagines Tradition with 2026 FIFA World Cup Home Kits

Three Stripes has unveiled 22 new home kits ahead of the World Cup draw, blending bold modern design with deep cultural roots.

The stage is nearly set for the world’s biggest sporting spectacle, with the official 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage draw set for Dec. 5 at 12 p.m. ET. Although not a host city next year, Washington, D.C., is where it will be determined which nations will battle it out next summer.

While fans wait to see how the draw shakes out, the spotlight’s already shifted to another World Cup tradition: the kits. Adidas has set the tone early, unveiling 22 bespoke home designs that fuse bold, contemporary looks with deep cultural roots. Each jersey draws inspiration from its nation’s heritage, landscape, and identity, transforming fabric into a statement of pride and performance.

“The national kit is the symbol of a nation’s togetherness and pride,” Sam Handy, GM of football at Adidas, said. “As teams step onto the world stage at the biggest World Cup we have ever seen, they carry the hopes of a whole new generation of fans, while representing those that have come before them. A World Cup is about creating moments that transcend the stadium, so we’ve engineered the designs as an honour to each nation’s roots, but also to celebrate an era where every fan, everywhere, is part of the story.”

Designed by a team led by Matteo Kossman and Sergio Mareco, the 22 partner federations represented are Algeria, Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Northern Ireland, Peru, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, and Wales.

Reigning World Cup champions Argentina’s iconic sky blue and white stripes get a fresh twist this time around, featuring a shapeshifting three-tone fade that nods to the shades worn during the nation’s three wins — 1978, 1986, and 2022. Around the back, a custom “1896” sign-off commemorates the year the AFA was founded. For Mexico, heritage and future collide for a product bursting with energy and pride. The shirt represents a celebration of a nation that lives and breathes football, where every shared moment captures the enthusiasm attributed to Mexico’s culture. On the back of the neck, the phrase “Somos Mexico” (“We Are Mexico”) stands as a proud symbol of unity and passion.

The uniforms reimagine each nation’s historic visual identity through a modern, forward-looking lens, effortlessly blending heritage with innovation. Kossman and Mareco told Boardroom in October that they had even gone one step further and visited several countries for a firsthand approach, an experience they called “really inspirational.”

Designed to represent a liberated style of play and fresh perspectives on the world’s biggest stage, the kits combine generations of footy knowledge with accurate cultural significance to usher in a new group of fans while triggering nostalgia among seasoned supporters. Think striking colorways and patterns inspired by local histories, landscapes, architecture, and iconic designs of the past. Subtle details referencing each federation’s legacy — from unforgettable victories to memorable milestones — reveal themselves upon closer inspection, leaving fans on an extended scavenger hunt for more Easter eggs.

The kits aren’t just a sight for sore eyes, but functional for the relentless summer heat across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Built for peak performance, innovative features include body-mapped 3D-engineered stretch fabrics featuring Adidas’ latest Climacool+ technology, which accelerates sweat-wicking and maintains optimal breathability. Perforated 3-Stripes and strategically placed mesh zones ensure exceptional ventilation, even in the most demanding climates.

Finishing off the collection is a new lenticular, heat-applied federation crest and Adidas logo, introducing a dynamic, shape-shifting visual effect — a bold symbol of innovation that captures the ever-evolving energy of the global game.

Fortunately for fans, these kits are available for purchase immediately. Not all aforementioned countries have qualified for the FIFA World Cup, but Adidas wants all their partner federations to be equally represented. All home jerseys go on sale Thursday at the Adidas website and in select retail stores.

Between this and the unveiling of the Adidas Trionda official World Cup ball, it’s been quite a couple of blockbuster months for the sportswear brand.
