HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ Posts Huge Numbers with Debut

After much anticipation, The Last of Us dropped on HBO. The hugely popular video game got the dramatic treatment, and people showed up. The premiere notched the second highest turnout in the last decade at HBO, bringing in 4.7 million viewers.

Neymar Jr. Teams up with PUMA for Unique Crossover Release

Neymar Jr. is showing his range. The 30-year-old Brazilian soccer star is teaming up with PUMA for a customized version of the Rise Nitro basketball shoes. The special release includes shades of  “Ultra Orange” with “Blue Glimmer” accents with additional structural support. The sneakers are set to release on Jan 26 via PUMA’s website and select retailers for $130.

Women’s World Cup On Pace to Break Record for Ticket Sales 

The Women’s World Cup is heading down under. According to FIFA, more than 500,000 tickets have sold for the 2023 event. The tournament, which begins on July 20, 2023 in Australia and New Zealand, is on pace to beat the current record of 1.1 million sales set in France back in 2019. The 2023 tournament will be the first with 32 teams with a record 64 matches played across 10 stadiums.

LIV Golf Nearing Deal with the CW

What was once a wild speculation is now a reality. LIV Golf is nearing a deal with The CW. With the agreement, the network, best known for its dramatic TV lineup, would serve as the broadcast home for the Saudi-backed golf outfit. The CW’s national distribution across the country will provide direct, televised competition to the PGA Tour under CEO Greg Norman.

Frank Ocean Teases New Music with Merch Drop

Frank Ocean is poised to have a huge 2023. The recently revealed Coachella headliner caused fans to scratch their heads with his recent vinyl re-release of Blonde. The record’s packaging included a cryptic poster which read, “The Recording Artist has since changed his mind about the singles model and is again interested in more durational bodies of work.” Regardless of whether or not he drops new music, millions will be able to tune into his appearance in the desert, as Coachella extended its partnership with YouTube through 2026.

Apple’s MacBook Pro Gets Powerful Upgrade

The MacBook Pro got yet another makeover, but this time it’s on the inside. The tech giant revealed the newest iteration of its high-performance product, which features the M2 chip, offering the most powerful edition yet. Apple also announced that it is bringing back its Mac Mini desktop computer for those that prefer to stay plugged in. Each product will go on sale on Jan. 24.

Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment Adds Ripken Baseball to Portfolio

Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment has a new addition to its sweeping portfolio. The company, which has primary stakes in the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils, announced that it has purchased a major stake in Ripken Baseball. With the move, they plan to merge the youth baseball outfit with their own Cooperstown All Star Village. “This partnership allows us to think a little bit bigger and grow a little bit faster,” Cal Ripken told Sportico.

Leslie Jones Tapped for “Daily Show” Hosting Stint

From her iconic SNL performances to her epic amateur commentating for the Olympics, Leslie Jones can do it all. Now, the actress is heading behind the desk. Jones will take over hosting duties for The Daily Show following Trevor Noah’s exit. Jones is the first in a series of temporary hosts, including Wanda Sykes, Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, and D.L. Hughley. When asked about her interests in hosting the show long-term, Jones avoided the question, telling reporters, “I don’t really want to answer that.”
