In an eye-popping trade that once again shakes up the NFL’s balance of power, the Kansas City Chiefs traded the Cheetah to the Dolphins for a package of picks headlined by a 2022 first-rounder. Immediately after, they locked Hill into a four-year contract extension worth $120 million, setting new records for average annual contract value and guaranteed money.

There you have it. Maximalists like Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, will consider this a four-year, $120 million pact, making Hill the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history both by average annual contract value (Adams got $28 million) total guaranteed money (Adams got $67.5 million), and money fully guaranteed at signing (DeAndre Hopkins is No. 2 at $42.75 million).
Some of this comes down to interpretation, however.
As Tom Pelissero notes, some of the money in that $120 million figure was already in place as part of his previous deal, which was due to expire next year. Effectively speaking, we’re looking at three new years and $75 million in new money:
