After a wrist injury has kept him sidelined since April, reigning U.S. Open champion Carlos Alcaraz is coming back to defend his title, he confirmed in an Instagram post on Thursday, although he has yet to officially state whether his participation will include the singles event. The 23-year-old starโ€™s frequent rival, the No.1-ranked Jannik Sinner, has yet to confirm his participation in the Grand Slam after withdrawing from the Cincinnati Open this week due to a knee injury.ย

FX is bringing back its massive hit Sons of Anarchy, a motorcycle club crime drama that ran from 2008 to 2014, but this time through a very meta lens. The new limited series Legends will feature the original cast playing fictionalized versions of themselves, reuniting at a fan convention a decade after the showโ€™s conclusion. Charlie Hunnam, who developed the show with Jonathan Groff, will return along with Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates and Theo Rossi โ€” no word yet on Taylor Sheridanโ€™s potential involvement. Groff, Rob Mac, and others are signed on to executive produce.ย

Alongside Austin-based Lobos Hospitality, Boardroom co-founders Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman are working with Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia to launch Austin Sports Club, a new premium dining and entertainment destination. Opening Sept. 10 in downtown Austin,โ  the concept reimagines the classic American athletic club through a modern lens, blending elevated dining, premium hospitality and decades of sports culture. โ For Durant, the project also represents another connection to a city that has long been important to him. Located at 205 East 3rd Street, Austin Sports Club is designed to bring together the cityโ€™s sports, business and culture communities for everything from weeknight dinners to championship watch parties.

The 36-year-old, 11-time NBA All-Star guard James Harden has agreed to a 3-year, $97 million deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, sources say, though the deal is not finalized. Harden previously declined his $42.3 million option for next season to give Cleveland the salary cap flexibility to try to sign LeBron James, who ultimately went to the Philadelphia 76ers. Instead, the Cavs acquired Peyton Watson, former Denver Nuggets forward, to pad out their 2026 roster.ย

On Thursday, the U.S. Tennis Association announced a prize pool of $101 million, a 19% increase over last yearโ€™s $85 million, once again making it the richest tournament in the sportโ€™s history. Player remuneration has been a hot topic all year, with protests taking place at other Grand Slams including Wimbledon and the French Open, but this move by the USTA will likely avert similar action at the U.S. event. The players leading the protests have advocated for prize money to represent 22% of the Slamsโ€™ earnings by 2030. The $101 million pot is 18% of the USTAโ€™s 2024 revenue; 2025 numbers have not yet been published.ย

Christopher Nolanโ€™s summer blockbuster The Odyssey continues its box office domination. The Matt Damon-led flick has now made $1.35 billion worldwide, eclipsing 2024โ€™s Deadpool & Wolverine to make it the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever. Itโ€™s another boon for Hollywood, which has now seen five films cross the $1 billion mark this year, as the industry remains on track to see its best fiscal year since before the pandemic. Ryan Reynolds, who helms Marvelโ€™s Deadpool franchise, passed the baton to the Odyssey cast and crew in a congratulatory post on X.ย

ESPN is doubling down on its relationship with popular daily talk show host Pat McAfee. After announcing Wednesday that McAfee will join the networkโ€™s Monday Night Countdown as a panelist, reports now indicate heโ€™s also in talks to host his own Monday Night Football alt-cast. Eli and Peyton Manning are currently slated to host their popular alt-cast on ESPN2 for 12 games this NFL season, including the Super Bowl. If a deal with McAfee comes together, he would likely host his alt-cast during the Manningsโ€™ off-weeks.

An up-close-and-personal look at the life and career of Jessica Simpson is coming to a Netflix account near you. Simpson, a singer, actor, and entrepreneur who has long been open about her struggles with fame, starred in one of the first celebrity-driven reality TV shows, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which chronicled her marriage to Nick Lachey. More recently, she returned to music in 2025 after a 15-year hiatus and also appeared on Huluโ€™s Kim Kardashian-led Allโ€™s Fair. The feature will be helmed by Joe Pearlman, the director behind Netflixโ€™s Robbie Williams documentary.

Six years after strained relations with the Royal family prompted Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle to relocate to California, the couple is moving back to Britain. Back in 2020, the Sussexes signed a splashy $100 million deal with Netflix, which was renewed late last year. Despite speculation that the relationship had cooled, the couple still has several projects in development at the streamer. With the move, their status as โ€œnon-working royalsโ€ will remain unchanged, and they will continue to live as private individuals.ย

After announcing the deal to acquire Cox in May of 2025, Charter Communications has officially closed on the purchase. Already the biggest cable operator in the country, the merger makes Charter a giant, serving 37 million customers in 45 states. With the deal, John Maloneโ€™s Liberty Broadband also ceases to be a direct shareholder in Charter. Chris Winfrey, Charter president and CEO, will stay on to run the merged company, which will change its name to Cox Communications within the year.

Earlier this week, the total figure of the American governmentโ€™s debt passed the $40 trillion mark, with the year-to-date shortfall around $1.8 trillion, higher than the same period last year. Ten years ago, the national debt was $19.4 trillion. Rising defense costs, coupled with Social Security, Medicare, and interest on the burgeoning debt make up the lionshare of the government’s spending.
