‘The Bear’, ‘Alien: Earth’, & More: Boardroom’s Watchlist, August Edition

This new monthly column spotlights the standout films, shows, and streaming obsessions currently on the Boardroom team’s radar.

I’m excited to kick off something new here at Boardroom: a monthly column where we share what the team has been watching. Think of it as a curated roundup of our latest entertainment finds — whether that’s a must-watch movie, a binge-worthy show, a documentary that stuck with us, a YouTube series, or even a random TikTok rabbit hole we couldn’t escape. Everyone on the team gets to participate, and every month you’ll get a peek into our watchlists.

As for me, I should probably start with a disclaimer. I’m an entertainment reporter and on-camera talent here at Boardroom, which means I’m constantly watching multiple things at once. My queue is never empty. Recently, I’ve been catching up on a few series I missed when they first dropped.

First up: The Hunting Wives. I finally dove into this one on Netflix after weeks of seeing the online chatter. It’s dark, disturbing, and not typically my type of show — but I have to admit, it kept me hooked. The story is obsessive in all the ways you’d expect, and while it wasn’t necessarily in my usual wheelhouse, the internet hype pulled me in. And honestly? I was entertained.

Next on my plate: The Bear. I’ve been working through Season 4, and I can’t lie — I’m really enjoying it. This season feels like it’s tugging more at the heartstrings, even if some reviews out there haven’t been so kind. I’m not finished yet (two episodes to go), but so far it’s hitting for me. We’re seeing family dynamics come into focus, new characters enter the mix, and old relationships find closure. Plus, that ticking time clock is always looming, keeping the stakes high. TBD on my final thoughts when I wrap it up, but as of now, I’m impressed with where the show is taking us.

I also finally watched Barbarian for the first time because I wanted to see what director Zach Cregger was about before heading to the theater for Weapons. Safe to say I was spooked — so much so that I ended up crashing at my sister’s house that night instead of braving my own apartment.

Let’s dive into what else the team has been watching — starting with Rich Kleiman, co-founder and co-CEO of Boardroom.

Boardroom’s Picks

From binge-worthy dramas to reality TV guilty pleasures, here’s a look at what the team has been watching lately.

Rich Kleiman, Co-Founder and Co-CEO
Rich’s current watchlist is stacked. He’s deep into The Pitt, calling it a “full-on binge watch,” and already eyeing The Hostage next after hearing it carries the same addictive energy. He’s also tuned into Hard Knocks, the JFK Jr. documentary, Untamed, and Netflix’s The Hunting Wives. And for a guilty pleasure? Rich admits he’s hooked on Beyond the Villa.

Damien Scott, Vice President, Content
“Seeing as how James Gunn’s summer tentpole Superman has been out for almost two months, it feels safe to throw out a slight spoiler: The two end-credit scenes are perfect. Not because they allude to a larger DCU story arc (they don’t) or introduce an upcoming fan-favorite hero or villain (again, nope). They’re perfect because they don’t do too much. They encapsulate everything that’s great about Superman. A full-on reboot of the most famous superhero not named after a spider or a bat, Gunn’s take on Clark Kent eschews the familiar superhero movie tropes that have been driven into the ground by both DC and Marvel. There’s very little preamble. We don’t see Superbaby come to earth or him growing up. We don’t see him realizing his power or purpose. We jump right into a crazy day in the life of the world’s most powerful alien. The film is stylish without being visually overwrought; funny and touching without being cloying; and it doesn’t pretend to be a movie when it’s really a multimillion-dollar setup for a universe of films. It’s not perfect. It’s just a fun, simple Superman film. Which is just what the franchise needed.”

Andrea Masenda, Senior Director, Video
Andrea’s been mixing drama, comedy, and true crime in her queue. She’s three episodes into Hulu’s The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, and also working through Platonic on Apple TV+. She just wrapped the latest season of The Bear and circled back to Love Life — specifically William Jackson Harper’s season — now that it’s back on Netflix.

Jose Mena, Chief of Staff
Jose’s watchlist is all about big universes and high production value. He’s calling Andor on Disney+ “maybe the best Star Wars show???” and is caught up in the third season of Invasion on Apple TV+, praising its globe-spanning storyline and special effects. He’s also tuned into The Wild Ones, an Apple TV nature doc that’s equal parts conservation storytelling and Bear Grylls–style adventure. And, of course, Jose is diving into Marvel with Ironheart on Disney+.

Amanda Tirador, Senior Manager, Marketing and Partnerships
Amanda is fully in her feels with The Summer I Turned Pretty. She admits the show has “turned [her] life upside down” and makes her allegiance clear: TEAM CONRAD 4EVER.

Jonathan Wiener, Senior Director, Audience Development
Jonathan is leaning hard into sci-fi and sharp comedy. He’s been impressed by Alien: Earth, praising its “incredible world building” and giving Noah Hawley his flowers. Foundation also makes his list, which he calls some of the best sci-fi on TV right now, thanks to the depth of Isaac Asimov’s source material. For laughs, Jonathan says It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia “still hits,” while South Park feels more relevant than it’s been in a decade, with Trey and Matt “doing the lord’s work this season.”

Meghan McKeighen, Social Media Content Development
Meghan says Alien: Earth is “stunning,” more thrilling than terrifying, with just enough jump scares to keep her on edge. She loves its mix of ’70s-inspired tech, modern effects, and perfectly chosen contemporary music to close out each episode. She also recently watched Weapons, another dark and eerie story told through multiple character perspectives that left her eager to explore genres she might normally skip. For something lighter, Meghan’s back on Project Runway (via Hulu the next day) and gives all the credit to Law Roach. Zendaya’s stylist, she says, brings the honesty, sharpness, and sass the series has been missing for years.

Shlomo Sprung, Staff Writer
Shlomo is hooked on Every Given Saturday, Netflix’s SEC football docuseries from Box to Box Productions, the same team behind Drive to Survive. He says the production value and character development make it not just addictive, but fully bingeable.

Stephanie Talmadge, Marketing Director
Stephanie’s lineup covers period drama, horror, and reality TV with a side of satire. She says The Gilded Age Season 3 is “definitely better than Season 2,” though still a bit messy. The Monkey caught her attention, too. “It’s like Final Destination but with a toy monkey,” which she says is really all you need to know. She’s still tangled up in Bachelor in Paradise, noting the franchise’s shift toward a game show format may not fully work, but at least it’s trying something new. And for laughs, she points to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Golden Bachelor spoof — a surprise delight, especially since ABC usually takes that franchise so seriously.

Vinciane Ngomsi, Reporter and Digital Creator
“As a fan of feel-good television that motivates me to refine my cooking skills, I’m already loving season 2 of With Love, Meghan by Meghan Markle on Netflix. I made a few dishes from Season 1, and I look forward to doing the same with the new batch of recipes. I’m also currently loving the new season of South Park; it’s a continuous reminder that legacy television from creators who have always been unashamedly vocal on social issues is still necessary. If you’re a fashion fiend like me, the new (and somewhat improved?) season of Project Runway is worth your attention. If anything, you’ll get a laugh out of Law Roach’s hilarious critiques.”

Final Credits

If there’s one thing this roundup proves, it’s that our team’s watchlists are as varied as they are passionate. From prestige dramas and superhero reboots to reality TV obsessions and horror detours, there’s no single way we’re experiencing entertainment right now — and that’s the fun of it. We’ll be back next month with even more picks, hot takes, and guilty pleasures. Until then, happy watching.
