Jerry Lorenzo and his Fear of God label are investing in the next generation of hoops stars. The Fear of God Athletics team and adidas announced on Friday that it will join Overtime Elite as the league’s eighth team. As a result, the squad will don uniforms and performance footwear designed by Fear of God Athletics. Team Athletics will debut the new looks during their game against the City Reapers on Friday, Nov. 8 at OTE Arena in Atlanta, which will be featured on Amazon Prime Video as part of a broader broadcasting commitment. The team made their collective debut at a community event in Atlanta on Thursday, where Lorenzo introduced the team and designs, where he also sat with Matt Barnes for a fireside chat. 

History was made Friday during the Grammy nominations ceremony. Not only did Beyoncé lead with 11 nominations, she officially became the most-nominated artist in the show’s history. Bey’s nominations include best country solo performance for “16 Carriages,” best country/duo performance for “II Most Wanted” with Miley Cyrus, and best Americana performance for “Ya Ya.” Charli XCXBillie EilishKendrick Lamar, and Post Malone picked up seven apiece; Sabrina CarpenterChappell Roan, and Taylor Swift each nabbed six; and country breakout Shaboozey secured five, including best new artist. Additionally, the Beatles became the first band to receive a nomination for music made with AI assistance. The Grammy Awards return to Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on Sunday, Feb. 2.

In celebration of the film’s 10th anniversary, IMAX confirmed Thursday that Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is set for a re-release on its screens. Beginning Dec. 6, the epic space flick is scheduled to be displayed in 70mm film and digital across select cities in states including Dallas, Ft. Lauderdale, Indianapolis, New York, California, and more. Tickets are currently on sale for the 70mm film screenings and advance ticket sales for digital screenings will be available later in the month.

The Philadelphia Phillies have closed a $500 million funding round. According to a report from CNBC, the funding came from three sources. With the new capital, the team and its 25% stake in NBC Sports Philadelphia are collectively valued at $3 billion. While there are no immediate plans for the influx of cash, some believe that the team may make a meaningful play for this offseason’s hottest free agent, Juan Soto.  

Whoopi Goldberg was frequently seen courtside at the Barclays Center throughout the historic New York Liberty season. Now, Goldberg is investing in the rising wave of women’s sports. The entertainer revealed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that she is launching “the first global women’s sports channel.” The All Women’s Sports Network will showcase women’s competitions from across the world. Goldberg concluded, “If a woman is playing it, we’re showing it.”

In new data from the New York State Gaming Commission, October alone saw $2.3 billion in online sports betting handle, the highest-ever amount wagered in the US. Moreover, it was only the fifth month New York has topped the $2 billion sports betting handle target. Despite the proliferation of bets, gross gaming revenue was not as profitable, with the state seeing a $28 million decrease from September’s total of $100.8 million.

The live show industry is booming. Sony Music reported a 14% increase in revenue year over year to $2.9 billion. The gain was largely due to the massive success of the touring efforts and merch of its artists such as Travis Scott. The company also credited streaming subscriptions as a major driver of the revenue. SZA’s 2022 album SOS continued to be the company’s top-selling album in its most recent quarter. 

Paramount Global shared its quarterly earnings Friday and profits for Q3 were $6.73 billion, down 6% year-over-year, but adjusted earnings per share were up 63% at 49 cents. Direct-to-consumer sales rose 10% to $1.86 billion, which was fueled by an 18% advertising boom and a 7% increase in subscriber revenue. Finally, Paramount+ picked up 3.5 million new subscribers to bring its global total up to 72 million.
