Want to own a piece of Oleksandra Oliynykova? It’s going up for auction as a non-fungible token.
WTA- and ITF-ranked women’s tennis player Oleksandra Oliynykova is offering fans a unique opportunity. No, it’s not a pair of tickets to her next match — it’s lifetime ownership of a section of her right shoulder and arm as an NFT.
The winner of the auction will have the option to do (almost) whatever they would like with the portion of Oliynykova’s arm, which measures six inches by three inches, including personal art to be tattooed. Just like other non-fungible tokens, the highest bidder could also elect to resell the blockchain-backed “collectible.”
And given that Olinynykova is just 20 years of age, this virtual real estate could be an appreciating asset.
The auction is currently live on NFT platform OpenSea and will carry through March 17th until 6:59 p.m. ET.
The Croatian-born tennis player and self-described crytpo enthusiast is currently 30th in the ITF World Tour Rankings and 649th in the WTA Rankings. She has one career singles win, a clay court triumph on the ITF Women’s Circuit in 2018.
While Oliynykova is generally pretty liberal as to what she will allow to be tattooed upon the surface area in question, there is naturally is a restriction against anything extreme, as well as references to gambling.
With NFTs of all kinds breaking records every time we open our internet browsers — including some increasingly odd ones, like Jack Dorsey’s first tweet and a Mark Cuban inspirational quote — it is easy to become a bit desensitized to the rapidly growing and evolving crypto industry. However, there is no disputing that what Oleksandra Oliynykova is offering is as unique as it gets.
Beyond being a fun story to follow, it’s a glimpse into what promises to be a strange, unpredictable future for the non-fungible token market.
