NWSL Free Agents 2023-24: Crystal Dunn, Becky Sauerbrunn, Sam Mewis, and More

With NWSL free agents nearly ready to put ink to paper, Boardroom is here to help you track who is going where.

With the 2023 NWSL season complete, all eyes shift to the offseason. And with free agents aplenty and an expansion draft on the horizon, it’s sure to be a busy winter.

The NWSL’s second-ever free agency period is set to begin Monday, with the transaction window open to 70-plus players with at least five years of experience in the league. The list boasts some of the most decorated names in women’s soccer. Representing the USWNT is winger Crystal Dunn, who confirmed last week that she is departing Portland Thorns FC. Other notable free agents are Becky Sauerbrunn, Rose Lavelle, and Sam Mewis.

Complicating matters this year is the 2024 NWSL Expansion Draft. This year’s festivities will air live on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network. Ahead of the expansion draft, all clubs will submit a list of protected and unprotected athletes which will be distributed to all clubs on Tuesday, Dec. 12. A public release of those lists will follow. That means there may be some unexpected roster holes for teams to fill in free agency.

Below are the NWSL free agents who could be make headlines in the coming weeks and months, courtesy of the NWSL.
