Neymar’s Crypto Golazo

Last Updated: July 5, 2023
The Brazil and PSG superstar made another splash in the world of blockchain technology and NFTs this week with over $1 million in Bored Ape Yacht Club purchases. But that’s not the whole story.

All-world footballer Neymar is a member of nine-time Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain. He’s a member of the legendary Brazil national team. He’s in truly elite company as Forbes’ No. 6 highest-paid athlete in the world for 2021.

But this week, the decorated soccer superstar joined a club that might be the single most exclusive of all right about now: the Bored Ape Yacht Club. He purchased two BAYC NFTs on OpenSea for a grand total of 349.5 ETH.

In fiat currency, that’s $1,070,006.

Yes, Neymar spent over a million bucks on Bored Ape NFTs in one day.

This was an absolutely smashing entrance into the BAYC community, whose celebrity ranks already include the likes of Stephen Curry, Serena Williams, Snoop Dogg, Mark Cuban, Eminem, and Jimmy Fallon.

But interestingly enough, the Brazilian forward is no debutante as it relates to the world of blockchain technology and crypto assets. As a member of French juggernauts PSG since 2017, he’s been around to see such developments as:

  • The club adding Crypto.com as as its official crypto partner in September of 2021
  • Their official $PSG “fan token” on the Chiliz platform becoming the No. 1 such token in all of sports, according to CryptoSlam, with an incredible $12.9 billion in total sales to date
