KD reflects on eventually being passed on the all-time scoring list, highlighting rising stars like Edwards and Dončić as the next in line to chase NBA scoring history.
After surpassing Michael Jordan on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, Kevin Durant wasn’t focused on where he stands, but on who’s coming next.
In a special edition of Boardroom Talks, Durant reflected on the inevitability of being passed, pointing to a new generation of stars already on track to chase down the same milestones. Rather than framing the moment as a finish line, he sees it as part of a much larger continuum.
“Sooner than that,” Durant said when the idea of someone eventually passing him came up. “There’s a lot of guys on the way.”
Among the names he highlighted: Anthony Edwards and Luka Dončić, two of the league’s brightest young scorers, already producing at a pace that mirrors the early careers of the game’s all-time greats. In Durant’s eyes, they’re not just talented; they’re on schedule.
“They hitting those marks that I hit at that time,” he said, referencing the early-career production that also defined icons like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.
For Durant, passing Jordan wasn’t just about climbing a list; it was about crossing paths with the players who shaped him. The same way he once looked up at the legends ahead of him, he now understands that he’s become part of that lineage for the next generation.
“I hope I left that impact on the game in that way,” Durant said.
Durant’s place in scoring history is already secure. But more importantly, his influence is already at work, reflected in the games of players like Edwards and Dončić, who are chasing numbers while unknowingly carrying pieces of his blueprint.
The list will keep changing. Names will rise, records will fall. And if Durant has it his way, that’s exactly how it should be.
