Stephen Curry Named NBA’s 2023 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion
Stephen Curry earned another distinction to add to his length résumé. On Tuesday, he was named this year’s Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion, an award named after the Hall of Famer. Curry is the first member of the Warriors to earn the honor, which was created in 2021. Some of Curry’s off-court achievements include the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation he founded with his wife Ayesha and the $6 million he provided to restart the golf program at Howard University. The NBA will make a $100,000 donation on behalf of Curry to the University of San Francisco Institute for Nonviolence and Social Justice to recognize this accomplishment.
Angel Reese Is the Newest Face of Mielle Organics, Joins Megan Thee Stallion & Saweetie
NCAA champion Angel Reese’s list of endorsements just keep growing. On Tuesday, it was revealed that the LSU star is the new face of Mielle Organics, a haircare brand specializing in products for Black coils. Reese’s likeness will be featured on their website, at in-person events and will also put together a limited-edition bundle of her favorite Mielle products to retail later this summer. Reese joins Megan Thee Stallion and Saweetie as notable ambassadors for the company recently acquired by P&G.

The Soccer Tournament Comes to NBC
A total of 27 games from the The Soccer Tournament (TST) will be aired across the NBC Sports’ platforms this summer, with some of the biggest clubs across the globe represented as teams compete for a $1 million grand prize. Matches will air on Peacock and CNBC, as the inaugural 7-a-side competition kicks off from Cary, North Carolina and features the likes of West Ham United, Wolves, Borussia Dortmund, Wrexham and various teams worldwide. Former USMNT and USWNT players are also expected to compete.
Pharrell Williams to Debut First Louis Vuitton Men’s Collection at Paris Fashion Week
Pharrell Williams’ tenure as the men’s creative director at Louis Vuitton has officially begun. The luxury men’s brand announced that he will show his first collection at the upcoming Paris Fashion Week. The Spring/Summer 24 collection will take place on the week’s opening day with an 8:30 PM start on June 20.
HBO & Discovery+’s ‘Max’ Rebrand Experiences Bumpy Debut
Max, the new streaming platform from HBO and Discovery+, was temporarily down on Tuesday, the morning of its debut. Users who attempted to use the service reported an inability to access it, which carries over content from its predecessor HBO Max while also offering new projects. Later in the morning on the same day, the concern appeared to be fixed. Compared with HBO Max, the new service offers eight times as many films and episodes in a high-resolution presentation known as 4K UHD.
Massachusetts Seeks to Ban Dynamic Ticketing with the “Taylor Swift Bill”
In an attempt to protect ticket buyers from surprise fees following the Ticketmaster debacle late last year which saw passes for Taylor Swift’s 2023 Eras tour rise over $22,000 on resale sites, lawmakers in Massachusetts have introduced a so-called “Taylor Swift bill.” Brought forward by Democratic state representative Dan Carey and state senator John Velis, the bill would require ticket sales companies such as Ticketmaster, StubHub, and SeatGeek to fully disclose the total cost of tickets prior to purchasing. The measure would also ban dynamic pricing, a method companies use to increase revenue by driving up their prices during high demand.
