Fanatics Goes All In with PointsBet

Michael Rubin and Fanatics are all in on PointsBet. As the billion-dollar company expands its betting footprint, Fanatics announced late on Sunday that it has brokered a deal with PointsBet. The two companies have agreed to terms, but pointed out in a joint statement that there will be a number of hurdles before the deal is finalized. The acquisition will facilitate Fanatics Betting’s access to 15 states across the country, according to CNBC. The deal is worth an estimated $150 million, according to CNBC.

Jalen Hurts Adds to Epic Year with Masters Degree

Jalen Hurts isn’t slowing down. Coming off his first Super Bowl appearance, the Philadelphia Eagles QB added another accolade to his ever-growing résumé. Over the weekend, Hurts got his Masters in human relations from the University of Oklahoma. Hurts famously transferred to Oklahoma from Alabama, completing his collegiate playing career in Norman. The achievement marks a busy off-season for Hurts, which also included negotiating a record-setting salary.

Top Prospect Scoot Henderson Nets Support from Stephen Curry

Scoot Henderson is preparing for the biggest night of his hoops life next month. As the standout fine-tunes his crossover and his jumper to make him ready for the league, he is also linking up with one of the NBA’s biggest stars to learn more about all the intangibles. Henderson announced on Monday that hhe has entered a “strategic alliance” with Stephen Curry that will focus on “business, basketball, and beyond.” In a statement, Curry said, “As I look towards the future of the NBA and the broader world of sports, Scoot embodies the next evolution of the game over the years, demonstrating the importance of playing for something greater than oneself.”

Linda Yaccarino Steps Out as New Twitter Boss

Twitter announced its newest CEO on Friday. The social media company tapped NBCUniversal ad whiz Linda Yaccarino for the gig. According to CNBC, Yaccarino got the tempestuous Elon Musk’s attention in recent months when he held a town hall of ad execs, and the seasoned veteran asked thoughtful questions and even pushed back against Musk on matters related to the company’s revenue strategies. Fittingly, her first remarks came via Twitter. She tweeted, “I’m not as prolific as @elonmusk (yet!), but I’m just as committed to the future of this platform. Your feedback is VITAL to that future. I’m here for all of it. Let’s keep the conversation going and build Twitter 2.0 together!”

Vice Media Files for Bankruptcy

It’s the end of an era at Vice Media. The company filed for bankruptcy on Monday morning. Along with the paperwork, Vice indicated that it has secured a deal with a financial consortium, which includes Soros Fund Management and Monroe Capital, to purchase the company. Worth an estimated $5.7 billion in its prime, Vice has faced a series of struggles since 2017. The move follows wide-ranging layoffs earlier this month. 

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Wins Quiet Weekend at Box Office

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 continues its prolific performance at the box office. The film took in an additional $60.5 million at theaters across the United States while capturing more than $90 million internationally. The performance boosted the Marvel film over $500 million in ticket sales just 10 days into its release.
