Women’s March Madness Tourney Shatters Attendance Records

The first year of the women’s official integration of March Madness has been a resounding success. The Women’s tournament has brought wild action to the hardwood. Leading into Friday night’s action, 216,890 tickets had been purchased for the 32 games. But tickets aren’t the only indicator of the sport’s growth. Viewership was also up 15% year-over-year, according to date from ESPN. Meanwhile, the men’s game saw a slight drop over the corresponding time period. 

Madonna Jumps on Board the Bored Ape Yacht Club

Madonna struck a pose in the virtual world. The pop icon teamed up with Moonpay to purchase Bored Ape #4988 for 180 ETH. She made the announcement saying that the move allowed her to “finally enter the metaverse” and comes as Yuga Labs finalized a major funding round this week at a $4 billion valuation to jumpstart their disruptive take on the metaverse, with the project “Otherside.” She is just the most recent celebrity to claim an ape. US Parties Among Those Shortlisted for Chelsea Purchase

The Chelsea sale moves along. Reports emerged on Friday indicating that the Premier League club had shortened its list of interested parties to four. Among those include Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils owners David Blitzer and Josh Harris, Dodgers and Lakers owner Josh Boehly is also in the mix as part of what is thought to be the front-running consortium of Jonathan Goldstein and Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss. Jets owner Woody Johnson will not be moving forward with his bid.

Megan Thee Stallion Links with Roc Nation for Docuseries

A documentary on Megan Thee Stallion is on its way. TIME Studios and Roc Nation are partnering to produce a multi-part project that will “touch on how Megan overcame various personal hurdles to thrive in her professional career.” The Houston rapper graduated from college last year while also ascending to be one of the most popular artists on the planet. 

A’ja Wilson Teases Upcoming PE

The University of South Carolina is rolling on to the Elite 8, and one of the program’s greatest stars in history is also winning long after graduation. A’ja Wilson announced via Twitter on Friday that she has a signature shoe coming to the Swoosh. It’s been a big Q1 for the Aces star, who also signed a two-year guaranteed contract with Las Vegas last month. 

Floyd Mayweather Steps into the Mayweverse

Floyd Mayweather has a bit of a troubled past with the blockchain, but he’s ready to start fresh and on his own terms. The boxer announced on Friday that he is launching a new NFT experience with the Mayweverse. The limited run collection will have different tiers of access and will unlock opportunities in the Mayweverse. There will be five different NFTs to collect each with a limited run of 1,000. 

Nike Signals Future Moves with Adapt Technology

Nike filed for two trademarks with the US Patent and Trademark Office for “AIRADAPT” and “FITADAPT.” While the details of what’s next for the Beaverton-based brand are unclear, but these new trademarks are a possible nod to the company’s plans to expand its Nike Adapt brand. The filings encompass the self-lacing technology designed for athletes, that is on the quest for a “perfect fit” to elevate performance.
