NBA 2K24 Kobe Bryant Edition Unveiled

The late Kobe Bryant wore No. 24 for the second half of his storied career with the Los Angeles Lakers, so it is only fitting that the NBA Hall of Famer is a cover athlete for NBA 2K24. Specifically, the NBA 2K24 Kobe Bryant Edition and Black Mamba Edition. This is not the first time the five-time champion has graced the front of an NBA 2K game. The franchise paid homage to Bryant by placing him on the cover of the Mamba Forever Edition of NBA 2K21 after his unexpected passing in a helicopter crash along with his daughter Gigi and seven other passengers in January 2020.

Threads Launch Attracts Over 30M Users in First Full Day

Mark Zuckerberg‘s answer to Twitter is already experiencing monumental success. According to CNBC, Instagram’s text-based social platform Threads surpassed 30 million signups in its first day on the market. The Meta CEO added that Threads was the top free app in Apple’s App Store as of Thursday morning. Because it’s powered through Instagram, a key benefit of Threads is its ability to automatically follow some or all of the same accounts you follow on IG. At the moment, Threads doesn’t have a desktop website; you can only use the service by downloading the iOS or Android apps.

LIV Golf Inks Agreement with ReachTV to Play Across Airports

LIV Golf announced a partnership on Thursday with ReachTV, the largest streaming television network serving travel audiences in North America. The network will air live Friday tournament coverage and non-live past tournament coverage on weekdays in U.S. airports. The first live tourney to air on ReachTV will be the LIV Golf Invitational in London starting July 7 at 9 a.m. ET from Hertfordshire at Centurion Club, which was the site of last year’s LIV Golf Invitational Series launch. “Our league is continually looking for innovative ways to connect the sport that we love with new audiences, and this partnership will give travelers more chances to catch many of golf’s biggest stars in action,” Will Staeger, LIV Golf Chief Media Officer said of the new alliance.

Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier Team up for New 3-on-3 League

Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier and New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart will launch a new women’s basketball league called “Unrivaled,” the duo revealed to ESPN. Running from January to March in Miami during the WNBA offseason, the format will include six franchises with 30 of the top players from the W participating in three-on-three and one-on-one contests. The intent is for players to earn competitive salaries similar to their WNBA contracts. Stewart and Collier also disclosed that a number of companies have already expressed interest in partnering, including Twitter, DAZN, the WTA, and WWE.

Olivia Dunne to Invest in Fellow Athletes with Livvy Fund

LSU Tigers gymnast and social media star Olivia Dunne is stepping up to help her peers achieve NIL success. On Thursday, the 20-year-old launched “The Livvy Fund” in collaboration with LSU collective Bayou Traditions. Dunne’s entire mission is to make the NIL space more equitable at LSU, consequently helping women athletes capitalize on more paid opportunities. She’s already got buy-in from two companies; On3 and Accelerator Active Energy have agreed to contribute both financial and business guidance through The Livvy Fund.

HarbourView Doubles Down on Hip-Hop with Nelly, Wiz Khalifa Catalog Investments

Hours after it was disclosed that HarbourView Equity Partners acquired “select recorded music assets” of veteran rapper Nelly, the firm followed up with more news. It has acquired “select recorded music and publishing assets” of 10-time Grammy-nominated artist Wiz Khalifa. The terms of the deal were not revealed, but a TMZ report claims Nelly pocketed $50 million for 50% ownership of his entire catalog. Assets in the deal with Wiz Khalifa include his hits “See You Again,” “Black & Yellow,” and “The Thrill.”
