LeBron James Museum Set to Open Doors in 2023

King James is one of the best to ever do it. His legacy in and impact on the game of basketball will live on forever, and now, thanks to Upper Deck, there will be a central place to revisit the best moments of his career. The LeBron James Foundation announced the launch of the LeBron James Museum in his hometown of Akron, Ohio which is scheduled to open its doors in 2023. 

NCAA Relaxes Cannabis Policies 

With legalization efforts expanding across the country, the NCAA has revisited its policies on cannabis use. The governing agency for collegiate sports announced on Friday that it will increase allowable limits for THC in mandated testing. In addition to increasing the thresholds for suspension, the NCAA also introduced multiple opportunities for intervention that allows the athlete to have three positive tests before being kicked off of his or her team. 

NFT Collection to Benefit Ukraine Raises $1M and Sells Out in 30 Seconds

It is a widely held belief that we have barely scratched the surface for all of the use-cases for NFTs. In response to the war on Ukraine, RELI3F, an NFT community dedicated to providing humanitarian aid, minted its first limited collection and earmarked all proceeds to go to victims of the conflict. The collection sold out in 30 seconds and raised over $1 million dollars.

Meta Launches NIL Program for Student-Athletes with Influencr

The NIL era is upon us, and one place where student-athletes can make some serious cash is by leveraging their robust social media followings. Meta has teamed up with Influencr to launch a new program to help students to maximize their reach, while also providing key education about how to do so within the sometimes tricky rules of NIL. Additionally, they will jointly build products in collaboration with student-athletes to help streamline the process of finding potential deals and maximizing opportunities. 

MLS Kicks Off 2022 Season

The MLS is back! Just 77 days after New York City FC took home the title, stadiums around the company will fill up once again. This year, the MLS has taken an expanded approach, signing social media sensation Noah Beck as a spokesperson for the league. Additionally, the popularity of the sport drove the second expansion team in two years, as Charlotte FC prepares to take the pitch. Earlier this week, the league also announced a new metaverse partnership with GreenPark, which also has deals with the NBA and La Liga.

Game-worn Air Jordan 1 “Dunk Sole” Expected to Fetch at Least $500k at Auction

When Michael Jordan broke his foot in 1986, he needed a shoe that could support his recovery and his top-tier game. Thus, the Dunk Sole was born. And now, one lucky collector will be able to claim the piece of hoops history, as a verified autographed, game-worn pair is up at Heritage Auction. The auction, which ends today, has a minimum reserve of $500,000 and collectors speculate that it will go for closer to a record-setting $600,000.
