SZA Remains on Top of the Billboard 200

It took SZA five years to drop S.O.S., and she’ll hold onto her top position as long as possible. The singer stayed on top of the Billboard 200, moving 180,000 units. The second week total added to SZA’s first week chart-topping performance, which tallied over 257,000 units. Taylor Swift’s Midnights remained at No. 2, while BTS’s RM took the No. 3 spot for his solo effort Indigo.

Liverpool Posts £37M Transfer Fee to Secure Cody Gakpo

The rapid transition from the World Cup to the January transfer window is bound to keep football fans around the globe busy. Hot off his red-hot performance with the Netherlands in Qatar, Cody Gakpo is headed to Liverpool. The Dutch football club PSV confirmed the move, saying in a statement: “PSV and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo. The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer.” Fabrizio Romano reports that the total package is worth an estimated £50 million.

Ja Morant Unveils First Signature Shoe

Ja Morant got one of the best possible presents. The Grizzlies star unveiled the ‘Chimney’ colorway of his upcoming Nike signature shoe in his team’s Christmas Day matchup against the Golden State Warriors. The game marked the first-ever Christmas Day game for the Grizz and the first time that Morant took his shoe out in public. The shoe will reportedly drop in April 2023. 

Denver Broncos Part Ways with Nathaniel Hackett

It is the final stretch of the 2022 NFL regular season, and with that, some teams are cutting their losses and setting their sights on their 2023 campaign. The Denver Broncos joined the Carolina Panthers and the Indianapolis Colts as they parted ways with their head coach. Nathaniel Hackett had posted a 4-11 record in his first season with the franchise. Senior Assistant, Jerry Rosburg, will take over head coaching duties for the remainder of the season.

Wild Winter Weather Puts Deep Impact on Bitcoin Mining

Over the last week, extreme winter weather has gripped states across America.  Multiple locations around the country logged record lows, resulting in huge flight disruptions and power outages. Amidst it all, Bitcoin miners also faced an extreme impact. Data show that mining dropped by 40% between Dec. 21 and 24. Activity returned to normal rates on Christmas day. The dip led some mining advocates to highlight that the activity is good for energy grids. Others called for geographic diversification to ensure that significant one-off events cannot derail the global markets. 

IRS Delays New 1099 for Collectibles Sales

Avid collectors and sellers are getting a bit of a break as the calendar turns on 2022. The IRS confirmed that it will delay the distribution of a 1099-K dedicated to collecting taxes for sales over $600 that take place via payment apps such as PayPal and Venmo. This has a direct impact on the collectibles industry, where informal marketplaces that utilize such tools dictate a large proportion of business. As of now, the new law will take effect in 2023. 

Meek Mill Grants the Ultimate Christmas Gift, Posts Bail for 20 Women

Meek Mill is in the holiday spirit. The Philadelphia rapper posted bail for 20 women at the Riverside Correctional Facility in his home city. Meek facilitated the move with the REFORM Alliance, the nonprofit that he cofounded with Jay-Z, Clara Wu Tsai, Bob Kraft, and more. Five of the women returned home in time for the holiday. The remaining 15 will be released later this week. In addition to the bail, he also provided each woman with a gift card to help purchase groceries or gifts.
