Argentina advanced to the World Cup final with a 2-1 comeback victory over England in Atlanta on Wednesday, scoring two late goals to overturn Anthony Gordon‘s 55th-minute lead. The match was a physical, chippy affairโ€”England led for most of the second half before Argentina’s late heroics struck again, staying true to their tournament pattern of narrow escapes in every knockout round. Messi and company will face Spain in Sunday’s final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the tournament favorite against the reigning champion in what promises to be a clash of titans.

Speaking of the World Cup finals, the tournamentโ€™s final chapter is shaping up to be just as crazy as the tournament. Ahead of Sunday’s title match at MetLife Stadium, Post Malone will headline a closing ceremony along with Hollywood legend Tom Cruise (billed as a “special appearance”), streamer IShowSpeed, and singers Robbie Williams, Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger, and Jennifer Hudson who will perform the national anthem. The ceremony is meant to “celebrate the 48 teams’ unforgettable journey” across three countries.

The first look at Amazon MGM Studios’ I Play Rocky dropped today, with Ippolito‘s pitch-perfect, slightly surreal, Stallone portrayal. The film follows the true story of how Stallone bet on himself to not only write Rocky but play the lead role, defying impossible odds. Ippolito previously played Al Pacino in Paramount’s The Offer, cementing his role as Hollywood’s go-to for young, breakout ’70s stars.

The AL dominated at Citizens Bank Park Tuesday night, capturing the Midsummer Classic with a shutout victoryโ€”the first since 2013โ€”while the Philadelphia crowd spent more time booing than cheering. Cody Bellinger (back in an All-Star Game for the first time since 2019) drove in two runs off Cristopher Sรกnchez in the first to earn MVP honors.

Nolanโ€™s highly anticipated 12th film is projected to open at the high end of expectations, which would rank as his biggest domestic debut since The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. The film could cross $200 million globally in its first weekend, driven by early enthusiasm and sold out IMAX screeningsโ€”it’s the first major feature filmed entirely with IMAX cameras. Previews start Thursday, with the nationwide release this Friday.

In a rare moment of bipartisan agreement, the House voted 308-117 Tuesday to pass the Sunshine Protection Act, which would end the twice-yearly clock shuffle. The measure now heads to the Senate, though its chances there remain uncertain. It’s the latest in a multi-year push to end what one lawmaker called “a disorienting and tired tradition.” The Senate passed similar legislation unanimously in 2022, but the House never took it up.

A Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton sold at Sotheby’s Tuesday for nearly double its pre-sale estimate, becoming the most expensive dinosaur ever auctioned. The fossil, nicknamed Gus and found on a South Dakota ranch, is about 38 feet long, one of the largest and most complete T-rexes ever discovered. The sale eclipsed a stegosaurus that fetched $44.6 million in 2024, though paleontologists fretted that private ownership means the specimen is now “lost to research.”

OpenAI is moving beyond software. Bloomberg reported Tuesday that the company’s first consumer product will be a mobile smart speaker without a displayโ€”designed as a “humanlike AI companion” that can control smart home devices, play media, and tap into ChatGPT‘s capabilities. Still in development for a 2027 launch, the device includes a camera and sensors to understand its surroundings. It marks the company’s $6.4 billion bet on Jony Ive’s io Products company last year.

Elon Musk’s space-and-AI conglomerate is correcting hard. SPCX peaked at $225 in its first full week of trading after its June 12 IPO but has since fallen to around $135, roughly breaking even on the historic $75 billion offering. The stock’s volatility reflects the outsized expectations: even at the dip, it’s valued at $1.77 trillion on $18.7 billion in annual revenue and a $4.2 billion operating loss.

Payment processor Stripe and private equity firm Advent International have jointly offered to buy PayPal for $60.50 a shareโ€”a 28% premium to Tuesday’s close and roughly $53 billion overall. The deal, backed by $50 billion in committed bank financing, would be the largest fintech acquisition ever. PayPal hasn’t responded, but its stock surged 17% in premarket trading.

The reborn Chevy Bolt earned top honors not with specs or performance, but with something even more cherished right now: affordability. At a $28,995 starting price, it offers the most range of any EV under $30,000 while delivering practical design and modern creature comforts. Car and Driver praised its “democratization” of EV tech at a moment when most electric vehicles keep climbing in price. The 2027 model year drops next quarter.

Wall Street’s megabanks are thriving in the AI era. Goldman Sachs reported a 39% revenue jump to $20.3 billion last quarter, while JPMorgan saw revenue climb 27% to $58 billion. The surge was driven by equity trading and investment banking tied to mega-deals, IPOs, and index rebalancing. JPMorgan’s CFO, Jeremy Barnum, told reporters that AI is “everywhere in financial markets,” fueling what Goldman’s CEO, David M. Solomon, called a “capex super cycle.”

Netflix surprised fans Tuesday by quietly releasing Stranger Things: VHS Special Editionโ€”all eight episodes of Season 1 with a retro filter that mimics the glitchy, grainy look of a well-loved rental tape. The move fulfills a dream of creators Matt and Ross Duffer, who’ve long wanted a “pan and scan” version. It’s streaming now as the show marks a decade since its July 2016 debut.
