Jordan Brand is opening its first U.S. retail store, World of Flight, on Oct. 10 in Philadelphia. The boutique will be home to exclusive product drops, community events, and an extensive selection of Jordan apparel and footwear. Philadelphia was chosen for its deep basketball roots and ties to Michael Jordan, including being the site of his final NBA game, as well as the connection to Jordan Brand athlete Jalen Hurts, who plays for the Eagles. A public block party will follow the store’s opening at 4 p.m., with additional nationwide locations planned.

Billie Eilish has teamed up with Complex and Fanatics to launch the Billie Eilish x Mitchell & Ness NBA League Collection, a limited-edition capsule that blends Eilish’s streetwear aesthetic with classic NBA motifs. Arriving Oct. 7, the collection reimagines Mitchell & Ness snapbacks for 17 NBA teams, each featuring custom Eilish patches. Inspired by her love for vintage sportswear and oversized silhouettes, pieces will be available exclusively on the Complex app and both the Complex and Mitchell & Ness websites.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is the latest to join Hyperice’s robust athlete portfolio. The announcement coincides with the UK and European debut of the Nike x Hyperice Hyperboot on Thursday, a product designed to enhance warm-up and recovery. A longtime user of Hyperice products such as Normatec, van Dijk joins the brand to emphasize the role of recovery tech in maintaining peak performance while coping with the physical demands of top-tier football.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed Thursday plans to launch pro women’s and men’s flag football leagues within the next couple of years, aiming to establish them ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics, where the sport will make its debut. The move is part of the league’s broader effort to grow the sport and engage younger audiences.

Per a Thursday report from Bloomberg, OpenAI has become the world’s most valuable private company, surpassing SpaceX, after a secondary share sale boosted its valuation to $500 billion, up from $300 billion. The company authorized the sale of $10.3 billion in shares, ultimately selling $6.6 billion to major investors, including SoftBank, Abu Dhabi’s MGX fund, Thrive Capital, and T. Rowe Price.

Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, the full version of the Kill Bill saga, will be released by Lionsgate in theaters as a single, uncut film on Dec. 5. Originally split into two volumes in 2003 and 2004, this definitive edition removes the split and features a never-before-seen animated sequence. Select theaters will screen it in 70mm and 35mm, with Tarantino emphasizing that this is the way the film was always meant to be experienced: “Blood and guts on a big screen in all its glory.”

In a blow to the labor market, a new report by Challenger, Gray & Christmas revealed that U.S. employers significantly reduced hiring plans in September, announcing only 117,313 job additions — a 71% decline from the same month last year and the weakest September since 2011. Seasonal hiring has also slowed sharply. From January through September, employers planned to add just under 205,000 jobs, marking the weakest year-to-date hiring outlook since 2009.

On the heels of its new deal with the NBA, making it the league’s official licensed trading card provider for the first time since the 2009-10 season, Topps announced Thursday that Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg will be the cover star of the 2025-26 collection, set to drop Oct. 23. Topps will also celebrate its return to licensed basketball by throwing launch events at select locations that same day, featuring appearances from players such as Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and Josh Hart in NYC, and Chris Paul in LA.

The Root, a prominent digital platform focused on Black America, is returning to Black ownership for the first time in years. Ashley Allison, a Democratic strategist and CNN commentator, is acquiring the site from G/O Media. Allison plans to expand The Root’s impact by investing in video content, expert partnerships, and in-person experiences. A former staffer during the Obama administration, she emphasized the importance of independent journalism during politically chaotic times, promising that The Root will continue its mission of preserving culture and empowering Black voices through meaningful storytelling.

Tesla‘s stock dropped over 5% on Thursday, despite reporting its best delivery quarter after shipping out 497,099 vehicles worldwide, a 7.4% increase from the same quarter a year ago. The mark was higher than the 439,600 analyst estimate, although the number will be hard to hit again after the government stopped issuing EV credits after Sept. 30.
