Sabrina Carpenter, Ricky Martin, J Balvin, and Alex Warren are set to perform at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, airing Sept. 7. Hosted by LL COOL J, the night will honor Busta Rhymes with the inaugural MTV VMA Rock the Bells Visionary Award, recognizing his influential impact on music and culture. Busta Rhymes is also scheduled to perform. Additionally, Ricky Martin will be celebrated with the prestigious Latin Icon Award.
Soho House Going Private in $2.7B Deal, Ashton Kutcher Joining Board
Soho House, which operates more than 40 members-only social clubs worldwide, is set to be taken private by MCR Hotels in a deal worth $2.7 billion. When the agreement closes, MCR Hotels will take control of Soho House’s publicly traded stock, with founder Nick Jones and executive chairman Ron Burkle retaining a majority stake. Ashton Kutcher is also set to join the board.
Cam Newton Joins Auburn Legends, No. 2 Jersey to Be Retired
Auburn Football will retire Cam Newton‘s No. 2 jersey, honoring the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner who led the Tigers to a national championship in his lone season with the program. The ceremony will be held Oct. 11 during Auburn’s home game against Georgia, the school said Monday. Newton is now the fourth Auburn player to have his number retired, joining Pat Sullivan (No. 7), Bo Jackson (No. 34), and Terry Beasley (No. 88).

MSNBC Rebrands as MS NOW; Versant to House Legacy Networks
As part of a corporate spinoff from Comcast, MSNBC is rebranding as MS NOW, an acronym for “My Source for News, Opinion, and the World.” The rebrand comes amid a broader restructuring that will see several NBC Universal-owned cable networks, including CNBC, Golf Channel, GolfNow, and SportsEngine, spun off into a newly formed media company called Versant. As part of this transition, these networks will retire the iconic NBC peacock logo, a symbol that has represented NBCUniversal for decades.
Kevin Costner, Jake Gyllenhaal Tapped for Amazon MGM’s ‘Honeymoon with Harry’
After more than 20 years in development, Honeymoon with Harry is finally moving forward at Amazon MGM, with Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal set to star. Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, and a script by Dan Fogelman, the dramedy follows a man who goes on his planned honeymoon with his would-be father-in-law after his fiancée dies just days before their wedding. The project is based on an unpublished novel by Bart Baker.
ChatGPT Mobile Revenue Hits $2B, Soars 673% in 2025
Since its launch in May 2023, the ChatGPT mobile app has generated $2 billion in global consumer spending, about 30 times more than its mobile rivals combined, according to Tech Crunch. In 2025 alone, the app has brought in $1.35 billion, a 673% increase from the same period in 2024. With nearly 690 million installs to date, average monthly downloads have surged to 45 million, up 180% year-over-year.
Cambridge Dictionary Embraces Trending Slang with New Additions
The Cambridge Dictionary has added over 6,000 new words to its online edition in the past year, including trending terms like “skibidi,” “delulu,” and “tradwife.” Skibidi comes from a viral YouTube series featuring bizarre toilet-headed characters, while delulu – originally used to mock obsessive K-pop fans – has evolved to mean “delusional” more broadly online. Tradwife refers to influencers who promote traditional wife roles.
Premier League, NBC Sports to Bring Fan Festival to Kansas City
The Premier League and NBC Sports will host the 11th Premier League Mornings Live Fan Festival in Kansas City, Missouri, on Sept. 20-21 at KC Live! in the Power & Light District. The free two-day event will feature live match broadcasts, appearances by NBC Sports’ studio team, the Premier League trophy, family-friendly activities, and visits from club mascots, special guests, and Premier League legends.
Jordan-Kobe Autograph Card Could Set New Basketball Auction Record
A rare Michael Jordan–Kobe Bryant dual-signed basketball card is expected to break records at auction, with bids already topping $6.1 million. The one-of-a-kind 2007-08 Upper Deck Exquisite Dual Logoman Autograph card features both players’ signatures and unique NBA Logoman patches. Set to be auctioned by Heritage Auctions on Aug. 23-24, the card could become the most expensive basketball card ever sold, surpassing the $3.12 million Luka Dončić Logoman sold in 2022.
