Spotify is taking a bigger step toward transparency around AI-generated artists. Starting in September, the platform will add “AI Persona” badges to profiles it identifies as AI-generated, with artists able to disclose their status or appeal Spotify’s designation. Users can also flag suspected AI profiles. Crucially, labeled personas will be excluded from Spotify’s editorial and algorithmic recommendations. The move comes as the music industry grapples with how to distinguish AI creations from human artists.

The U.S. just experienced its hottest month on record, with July averaging 76.89°F across the Lower 48, narrowly surpassing the previous mark set during the Dust Bowl in 1936. Every contiguous U.S. state was at least 1°F above its 20th-century average, with the Mountain West, Southwest, Northern Plains, and Southeast seeing the most extreme heat. Scientists say unusually warm overnight temperatures were a major factor, and a growing indicator of human-caused climate change. The record heat also coincided with drought and wildfire conditions.

Beginning Fall 2027, students in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts will receive “pass” or “no credit” designations instead of traditional letter grades during their first semester. Grades and instructor feedback will still be provided, but results won’t affect GPAs or appear as letter grades on transcripts. The pilot aims to “curb the mental health crisis” and give freshmen more freedom to explore unfamiliar subjects.
