A’ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Paige Bueckers headline Team USA‘s 12-player roster for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin. Clark and Reese are among seven players making their senior World Cup debuts, while Breanna Stewart is set to become just the third American to compete in four women’s World Cups. The defending champions will open tournament play against China on Sept. 4 as they pursue a record 12th world title.

Netflix is getting a piece of one of gaming’s biggest launches ever. The streamer will debut an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI on Aug. 27, marking a first-look partnership with Rockstar Games ahead of the game’s Nov. 19 release. Set in the fictional state of Leonida, GTA VI follows protagonists Jason and Lucia through a sprawling criminal conspiracy. The long-awaited sequel starts at $79.99 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a $99.99 Ultimate Edition also available.

Robert Pattinson transforms into former To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen in the first trailer for A24‘s upcoming crime thriller Primetime. Directed by Lance Oppenheim, the film follows Hansen during the height of the controversial NBC sting series in 2006 as he pursues what the logline calls “television history.” Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and Phoebe Bridgers also star in the film set to hit theaters on Sept. 25.

Just days after Bijan Robinson reset the running back market, Jahmyr Gibbs raised the bar even higher. The Lions reportedly signed the three-time Pro Bowler to a three-year, $67.5 million extension worth up to $75.75 million, making him the NFL’s highest-paid running back. Also Thursday, the Colts agreed to a two-year, $44 million extension with three-time Pro Bowler Jonathan Taylor, signaling a major payday era for elite NFL running backs.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup delivered a major financial boost for Fox. The company reported $4.2 billion in quarterly revenue, up 28% year over year, while advertising revenue jumped 73% to $1.9 billion, fueled by a 108% surge in TV ad sales tied to the tournament. Meanwhile, Fox-owned Tubi continued its rapid growth, surpassing 110 million monthly active users and posting the highest-revenue quarter in its history as free, ad-supported streaming gains momentum.

Patrick Mahomes and Rob Gronkowski are returning to T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights program, helping small-town high schools compete for major football field upgrades. Now in its third year, the initiative will award more than $8.4 million in prizes, including a $1 million grand prize transformation. Inspired by their own high school football memories, Mahomes and Gronkowski say the program celebrates the community pride and traditions that make Friday nights special.

Warner Bros. Discovery missed Wall Street expectations in the second quarter as weak box office results weighed on earnings. Revenue fell short at $8.7 billion, with theatrical revenue plunging 46% year over year after Supergirl and The Bride underperformed, while advertising revenue dropped 22% following the loss of NBA rights. The company did not provide any new update on its pending $111 billion merger with Paramount Skydance, though the deal took a step forward after Paramount’s takeover bid was cleared by UK authorities.

Fans will soon have the chance to own pieces from The Devil Wears Prada 2. Christie’s will auction costumes and accessories worn by Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, Lady Gaga, and more from Sept. 1–15, with proceeds benefiting the Committee to Protect Journalists and the CFDA Foundation. Highlights include Miranda Priestly’s wardrobe, Andy Sachs’ famously stained dress, and signed Valentino heels worn by Streep.

Netflix dropped the first trailer for Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young, offering a preview of the former Texas quarterback’s rise from college football legend to NFL star, and the personal struggles that followed. The documentary premieres Aug. 25 as the first installment in a new season of Netflix’s Untold series, which will also feature new episodes on viral Olympic breakdancer Raygun and entertainment icon Mr. T.

Amazon MGM has set a release date for Madden, the upcoming biopic about NFL legend John Madden. The film, starring Nicolas Cage as Madden and Christian Bale as Raiders owner Al Davis, will premiere globally on Prime Video on Nov. 18. Directed by David O. Russell, the movie explores Madden’s journey from Super Bowl-winning coach to iconic broadcaster and the namesake of one of gaming’s most successful franchises.

Real Madrid has secured one of soccer’s biggest stars for the long haul. Vinícius Jr. signed a new contract extension through 2032, ending more than a year of speculation about his future as his previous deal neared its 2027 expiration. The 26-year-old Brazil international has become a cornerstone of Madrid’s recent history, tallying 128 goals in 375 appearances while helping the club win 14 trophies, including two UEFA Champions League titles.

Mortgage demand is slowing as higher rates weigh on buyers and homeowners. The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate climbed to 6.81% last week, its highest level in more than a year, pushing total applications down 2.9% week over week and below year-ago levels. Refinance activity also declined as fewer homeowners can benefit from replacing existing loans. While rates have since started to ease, affordability remains a major challenge for the housing market.

Peloton turned its first-ever annual net profit in fiscal 2026, marking a milestone in its turnaround under CEO Peter Stern. The connected fitness company earned $63.2 million for the year and topped quarterly revenue expectations, but investors sent shares down after management forecast fiscal 2027 sales below Wall Street estimates. Peloton is betting on new revenue streams, including commercial gym equipment and a recently announced partnership with Spotify.
