Saquon Barkley Tops Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts on NFLPA’s Player Sales List
For the first time since 2017, a running back sits atop the NFLPA’s top 50 player sales rankings. Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley, who also graces the cover of EA Madden NFL 26, sits atop the list that tracks the sales of officially licensed player merch from March 1, 2024, to Feb. 28, 2025. He’s followed by recent Super Bowl opponent Patrick Mahomes in second, while Barkley’s Eagles teammate Jalen Hurts sits in third. Young quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and CJ Stroud round out the top five as two of 21 quarterbacks to crack the list.
Nintendo Switch 2 Sets Record with 3.5M Units Sold
Nintendo announced Wednesday that the recently released Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 3.5 million units, a new record for the Japanese company. Priced at $450, Nintendo added that it’s the “highest global sales level” for any of its devices within the first four days of release. With a goal of selling 15 million consoles by March 2026, Nintendo might very well reach that milestone.
Sabrina Carpenter Reveals August Release Date for New Album
Sabrina Carpenter is entering a new era, revealing Wednesday that her new album, Man’s Best Friend, arrives on Aug. 29. Last week, the Grammy winner shared the project’s lead single “Manchild,” which she wrote with frequent collaborators Jack Antonoff and Amy Allen. The song recorded the biggest debut of the year thus far for a female artist after claiming the top spot on Spotify’s global chart with 8.05 million streams worldwide.
A24 Greenlights Horror Film From Youngest Director in Studio History
Sci-fi horror film The Backrooms is a go from A24, and the studio just hired the youngest director in its history to bring it to life. At just 19 years old, Kane Parsons is set to tell the story, which is based on his popular YouTube horror universe. Leading the cast are Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve.
Snap Launching Specs to the Public in 2026
With the smart glasses market heating up, Snap is set to launch the latest iteration of its AI-powered eyewear to the public next year. Called Specs, users will be able to share games and experiences with friends, stream content, and set up virtual work stations for browsing and streaming. While a release date or cost wasn’t revealed, Snap said the new glasses will be smaller and lighter than previous versions.
Kendrick Lamar is Taking ‘Grand National Tour’ to Australia
Kendrick Lamar is bringing his Grand National Tour to Australia, securing stops in Sydney and Melbourne. After finishing his European leg in August, K Dot will take a break before going down under at the end of the year. He’ll perform Dec. 3 at Melbourne’s AAMI Park and Dec. 10 at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. With dates left to spare, this year’s tour with SZA has already surpassed Kendrick’s Big Steppers Tour, which grossed $110.8 million in 2023.
Netflix Unveils ‘Stranger Things’ Animation Details
Capitalizing on one of its most successful shows, Netflix announced Wednesday that it is working on an animated spin-off of the Stranger Things franchise. Titled Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, Netflix did not provide a firm drop date, but said that the new show will come out next year. The original Stranger Things series is set to kick off its final season later this year in a three-part drop, with the first premiering on Nov. 26.
NCAA Adds Coach’s Challenge to Men’s, Women’s Hoops
It’s official: college basketball coaches — for both men’s and women’s — will now be allowed to challenge calls made on the court after the NCAA recently announced a few minor rule changes. The NCAA also targeted improving the flow of games, asking officials to “to address delay-of-game tactics, limit time spent at the monitor, improve game administration efficiency and reduce physicality.”
Tony Awards Viewership Surges on CBS, Best in 6 Years
The 2025 Tony Awards drew 4.85 million viewers on CBS, a 38% year-over-year jump and the biggest broadcast in six years. Additionally, the network says it attracted its largest streaming audience ever on Paramount+, up 208% from last year.
SAG-AFTRA Calls Off Video Game Strike
After more than 300 days, SAG-AFTRA said Wednesday it’s officially ending the video game actors’ strike. The union’s national board is scheduled to meet on Thursday to consider the contract. If approved, it will be presented to membership for ratification. This is also when SAG-AFTRA is expected to share key details regarding the new agreement.
