There will never be another Los Angeles Sparks player donning No. 3 after the team announced Thursday that it will retire Candace Parker’s jersey at halftime against the Chicago Sky on June 29. The three-time champion will become the third Sparks player to have her jersey hang in the rafters of Crypto.com Arena, joining Lisa Leslie (No. 9) and Penny Toler (No. 11). In her 13 seasons with the Sparks, Parker was named WNBA MVP twice while leading Los Angeles to a title in 2016.

The lineup for this year’s Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash is set, with organizers sharing that Young Thug, Don Toliver, Yeat, and Future will headline the festival. Additional performers include Chance the Rapper, Quavo, Sexyy Red, Soulja Boy, and G Herbo. Summer Smash will be held from June 20-22 on the campus of SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. Tickets go on sale Friday at noon CT.

OpenAI is nearing the close of a new $40 billion funding round led by SoftBank, according to a Bloomberg report. With this latest deal, the AI company’s value is estimated to reach $300 billion, nearly double the previous valuation of $157 billion after an October funding round last year. Additionally, OpenAI recently added that it expects to triple its revenue in 2025 to $12.7 billion.

Organizers for the Sundance Film Festival confirmed Thursday that after four decades in Park City, Utah, the annual event will relocate to Boulder, Colorado, beginning in 2027. The 10-year deal comes after a long search that dwindled to Boudler, Park City, and Cincinnati as the three finalists. Developers cited Boulder’s ability to offer “small-town charm with an engaged community, distinctive natural beauty, and a vibrant arts scene” as reasons for the move. 

The New York Liberty announced plans on Thursday to build an $80 million state-of-the-art practice facility. Scheduled to open in 2027, the facility will be located in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood and is fully funded by the Liberty’s ownership group led by Joe Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai. The 75,000-square-foot space will feature an in-house hair and makeup studio, private family lounges, a full recovery suite, a rooftop patio, and other amenities.

Mark Ronson is releasing a memoir later this year. Titled Night People: How To Be A DJ in ‘90s NYC, the book arrives in September and will chronicle three things: “The art of DJing with all its emotional highs and lows, the electric energy of New York after dark, and the wild, wonderful clubland characters who became my second family.” 

West Philadelphia native Will Smith called it “the honor of a lifetime” after appearing in his hometown to celebrate the city renaming a portion of 59th Street Will Smith Way in honor of the award-winning actor. Located next to Smith’s old high school, Overbrook High School, the ceremony was also attended by one of Smith’s former teachers, Philly mayor Cherelle Parker, and other city leaders.

Savannah James is the latest celebrity to launch their own skincare line, Reframe, with Puck teasing that it will be on the upscale side. James reportedly teamed up with alums of  Nécessaire, MAC, Pat McGrath, and Glossier to develop the products.

In a pursuit of identifying and elevating the next wave of filmmakers, specifically with underrecognized and underrepresented voices, Tyler Perry announced the Dream Collective program on Thursday. The Deadline exclusive explains that applications open April 17 with a focus on short films, and participants will receive total access to industry experts, hands-on training, and targeted support to help them reach their goals. 

Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page have been cast together to star in a new Universal film called Italianna. While details of the plot remain a secret, Marry Me filmmaker Kat Coiro will direct, and Ryan Engle will be tasked with the screenplay. Will Packer and Johanna Byer will produce the film via Will Packer Productions’ first-look deal with Universal Pictures. No release date has been announced.
