JuJu Watkins Makes History with Fanatics
Fanatics and Fanatics Collectibles announced Friday an exclusive, multi-year deal with USC superstar JuJu Watkins, making her the first female college athlete to ever boast such a pact with the sports memorabilia company. The partnership includes autographed collectibles and trading cards featuring Watkins’s signature and game-worn memorabilia. Watkins will also be featured in the 2025 Bowman University Chrome Basketball collection, which will include fellow college star Cooper Flagg.
Jason Sudeikis, Apple TV Confirm ‘Ted Lasso’ Will Return
Ted Lasso, the comedy about a lovable American soccer coach in the U.K., is officially coming back for a fourth season, Apple TV confirmed Friday. Jason Sudeikis, who plays the titular character and created the series, will return to reprise his role. Speaking with Travis and Jason Kelce on their podcast New Heights Friday morning, Sudeikis said his character will be coaching a women’s team in the new season. Apple did not provide a release date.
Anthony Mackie & Chloe Bailey Voice in Animated Sneakers Film
A new animated film is arriving this year, and it’s catered to sneakerheads. Titled Sneaks, Anthony Mackie and Chloe Bailey voice as brother and sister sneakers in New York that get separated after Bailey’s character, Maxine, is stolen by a collector (Laurence Fishburne). Hitting theaters April 18, the movie features a star-studded cast that includes Martin Lawrence, Swae Lee, Ella Mai, Quavo, and Mustard, who is also featured on the soundtrack.
PepsiCo Eyeing Poppi for $1.5B
PepsiCo is in advanced talks to acquire healthy soda brand Poppi in a deal worth more than $1.5 billion, Bloomberg reported Friday. PepsiCo, which reportedly had plans to launch its own healthier brand prior to discussions, could announce the news as early as next week.
CNBC Expands Sports Vertical to TV, Events
CNBC is planning a major overhaul of its sports business coverage, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported. The network plans to launch a weekend show, CNBC Sport: On The Record, featuring interviews with executives and newsmakers while also producing a series of long-form projects examining the intersection of sports and business, with the first title focusing on Stephen Curry’s off-court endeavors. Alongside the flagship CNBC x Boardroom Game Plan conference that first launched in 2023, the expansion will include additional live events, starting with CNBC Sport: Inside the Business of Women’s Basketball on April 5.
Tommy Hilfiger Named Fashion Sponsor of Apple’s ‘F1’ Film
As excitement for the summer release of the motorsport-centered F1 movie builds, the film is shoring up its partnerships. On Thursday, WWD reported that Tommy Hilfiger is the fashion sponsor for the forthcoming feature starring Damson Idris, a Hilfiger brand ambassador, and Brad Pitt. As part of the arrangement, the Tommy Hilfiger flag logo will be displayed on the halo, front, and side of one of the film’s cars, as well as on the driver’s kit and team uniforms.
Apple Reportedly Working on Live Translation Feature for AirPods
Apple is working on a feature that will allow users to translate real-time conversations in other languages via their AirPods, according to a Thursday report from Bloomberg. The function will be “tied” to the forthcoming iOS 19 software update later this year.
Pershing Square Sells $1.5B in UMG Shares
Hedge fund Pershing Square Holdings, Ltd announced it is selling 50 million shares belonging to Universal Music Group (UMG), totaling $1.5 billion. Equalling 2.7% of UMG’s outstanding shares, UMG will account for approximately 17% of Pershing Square’s portfolio following the sale, down from approximately 27% before the sale.
MTV Movie & TV Awards Won’t Return in 2025
For a second straight year, there will be no MTV Movie & TV Awards ceremony. Last year’s program was put on pause as the network reworked the show’s format. Deadline writes updates will be shared as plans for the new structure are solidified.
Spotify Launches Audiobook Program for Independent Authors
Spotify announced an initiative advocating for independent authors to submit short-form stories for audiobook creation and publishing consideration by the platform. Should Spotify decide to develop an author’s submission, it will publish the audiobook, which includes paying an advance and royalties, supervising the production schedule, and distributing the work to major audiobook retailers.
