The New York Yankees will retire CC Sabathiaโ€™s No. 52 and dedicate his Monument Park plaque before their Sept. 26 game vs. the Orioles, honoring the 2025 Hall of Famer for 11 dominant seasons in pinstripes. Signed to a landmark deal in 2009, Sabathia went 134โ€“88 with a 3.81 ERA and 1,700 strikeouts, helping power the franchise to its 27th World Series title while earning ALCS MVP honors that postseason. โ€œExtremely humbled. Iโ€™ve watched teammates get this honor and never thought it would be me. Feels surreal to be in Monument Park with so many legends,โ€ Sabathia exclusively told Boardroom.

Major League Soccer will allow teams to sell a new lower-back jersey ad beginning after the 2026 All-Star break, adding a fourth sponsorship spot to club kits. The Washington Post reportedly lost more than $100 million in 2025 after posting a $77 million loss the year prior, which likely led to the recent 30% staff reduction as it refocuses its operations. Amid the shakeup, including the shutdown of its sports section, The Athletic announced it has hired six former Post sports journalists โ€” Barry Svrluga, Spencer Nusbaum, Candace Buckner, Ava Wallace, Adam Kilgore, and Jason Murray — to strengthen its D.C. coverage.
