NFL Stars, Celebrities Show Up For Fanatics Flag Football Classic

The inaugural Fanatics event brought together NFL stars like Tom Brady, Saquon Barkley, and Odell Beckham Jr. for a high-energy weekend, spotlighting the future of flag football.

The inaugural Fanatics Flag Football Classic took over the weekend as a high-energy collision of sports, culture, and entertainment, drawing some of the biggest names across industries into one spotlight. Hosted by Fanatics, the event blended competition with celebrity, bringing together elite athletes, entertainers, and creators for a reimagined take on the game. More than just a showcase, the Classic signaled a growing shift toward experiences that live at the intersection of football, fandom, and culture, with flag football emerging as a fast, accessible format built for moments like this.

Boardroom was on the ground in Los Angeles with host Brittany Sky, catching up with the likes of Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, NFL stars Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham Jr., and more.

When Boardroom caught up with Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin, one of the driving forces behind the event, he emphasized the broader ambition behind the Classic. What started as an idea has quickly evolved into a cultural touchpoint, blending athletes, entertainment, and fan engagement in a way that traditional formats haven’t quite captured.

There’s also a deeper layer to the event’s significance, particularly as flag football continues to gain momentum globally. With increased visibility at the youth level and its upcoming Olympic debut, the sport is carving out its own lane alongside traditional tackle football.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell sees the Fanatics Flag Football Classic as part of that evolution. For the league, it’s not just about creating new content — it’s about expanding the reach of football itself. Flag offers accessibility, speed, and a different kind of skill expression, opening the door for new audiences and future players.

That distinction between flag and tackle football is something current players are actively thinking about, too. Saquon Barkley, one of the league’s most dynamic playmakers, spoke about the nuances between the two — from pacing to physicality — and how each version of the game demands a different approach.

Beckham Jr. showed up to the inaugural Fanatics Flag Football Classic with more than just highlights in mind; he’s brought a bigger vision with him. The three-time Pro Bowler is using the moment not just to compete, but to build. In a conversation with Boardroom, Beckham opened up about FRI&NDS, a platform he’s quietly been developing to spotlight creatives, brands, and collaborators who don’t always get their due shine. It’s less about a single launch and more about long-term ecosystem building, a network that merges culture, sport, and creativity under one umbrella.

And we tapped some of the NFL’s biggest names to get creative — asking them to build their perfect flag football player from scratch. The answers reflected just how different the game becomes without pads: prioritizing quickness over power, instincts over impact, and versatility above all else.

At its core, the Fanatics Flag Football Classic is less about the final score and more about the moment it represents. It’s a convergence point, where athletes become builders, executives become curators, and the game itself continues to evolve in real time.
