Davante Adams Free Agency 101

Last Updated: March 8, 2022
Has Davante Adams played his last game in a Green Bay Packers uniform? Is the franchise tag coming? Here’s what you need to know as the All-Pro wide receiver enters free agency.

He’s the biggest name on the board among 2022 NFL free agents, and the Green Bay Packers are officially on the clock to find a solution that keeps the one and only Davante Adams in town for years to come.

Adams, arguably the NFL’s most consistent producer at wide receiver over the last few years, just finished a four-year, $58,709,632 contract — his second deal in the league. At age 29, he’d figure to have one more lucrative, big-time contract in his future to carry him through the rest of his prime years. But given the ongoing uncertainty concerning franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers‘ own future at Lambeau Field, General Manager Brian Gutekunst and President/CEO Mark Murphy have their work cut out for them like never before.

Let’s talk about what you need to know about imminent free agent Davante Adams.

Davante Adams Free Agent Breakdown

The Green Bay Packers had better strap in for an offseason full of fireworks — for better or worse. And while we don’t have much of an idea what’s going to happen with Rodgers, who’s technically under contract but has the ability to opt out, Adams will become a free agent on March 16.

Full stop, the Packers would be certifiably insane to let him go. And considering that he and Rodgers might just be a package deal, don’t expect Brian Gutekunst, Mark Murphy, and Co. to hesitate to use the franchise tag even for a second. If the choice comes down to franchising him (and dealing with the inevitable player perturbation that comes with receiving it in place of a long-term deal) versus losing him to a potential Super Bowl rival for free… well, that’s a decision that basically makes itself.
