HBO's 'Hard Knocks' to Highlight Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow & More in AFC North Edition
The Hard Knocks universe is expanding once more. A month after announcing the offseason version with the New York Giants, the behind-the-scenes NFL program said it’s headed to the AFC North for the Hard Knocks: In Season iteration. The show is set to document the in-conference drama between the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, and Pittsburgh Steelers. The show’s creators hope that the conference will find the same success after all four teams each earned a playoff spot in 2023. The series will run the final six weeks of the season and into the playoffs, premiering on Dec. 3.
Scooter Braun Retiring from Artist Management to Focus on HYBE
Scooter Braun has worked with some of the biggest names in music, from Justin Bieber to Ariana Grande, over his 23-year career. However, after parting ways with both in a managerial capacity, Braun announced in a lengthy statement on Monday that he is retiring from artist management overall. In his next chapter, he will focus on his new role as CEO role at entertainment company HYBE America, where he will also sit on the board. Braun sold Ithaca Holdings to the South Korean HYBE back in 2021 for $1.05 billion.
Shaun White Unveils The Snow League, Eyes Early 2025 Debut
Shaun White has remained busy in retirement. The snowboarding great announced the launch of The Snow League, the first “legit professional league” for the winter sport. White revealed the news while onstage at Stagwell Sport Beach at the Cannes Lions Festival in France. The new league’s first event is set to take place in early 2025 and the first season will boast prize money of up to $1.5 million, the richest in the sport’s history.
Niall Horan Joins Tiger & Rory in TGL; Invests in FSG-owned Boston Team
Singer Niall Horan is expanding his business portfolio by becoming the latest investor in Boston Common Golf, one of the six inaugural TGL teams. The TGL is the new indoor golf league co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, a friend of Horan’s as both hail from Ireland. Boston Common Golf’s ownership group already includes Fenway Sports Group and McIlroy’s investment firm, Symphony Ventures. Horan, who boasts 32 million Instagram followers, will serve as a team ambassador.
Francis Ford Coppola’s Latest Opus Finds Distribution Home with Lionsgate
Francis Ford Coppola has not had a movie hit the silver screen since 2011’s Twixt. Now, the legendary director will be back in theaters this fall. Lionsgate announced that it has purchased the US distribution rights for Megalopolis, which stars Adam Driver and Aubrey Plaza and is backed by $120 million of Coppola’s own fortune. The sweeping film was 40 years in the making and debuted at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, receiving a seven-minute ovation. According to Deadline, Lionsgate will be responsible for domestic distribution, while Coppola’s American Zoetrope will own the film.
NWSL's Reign Deal with Sounders, Carlyle Closes at $58M Valuation
The Seattle Reign officially have secured a new ownership group. The NWSL team revealed on Monday that the long-reported deal with the Seattle Sounders and the investment firm Carlyle is finalized. While the specifics of the deal are not fully known at this time, Sportico reports that it covers 100% of Reign’s equity at a $58 million valuation. Carlyle has become a major investor in the sports and entertainment space in the last several years, leveraging more than $4 billion.
Sabrina Carpenter Takes Over Top 2 Spots on ‘Billboard Global 200’
Sabrina Carpenter stays busy, as the 25-year-old pop star has teed up the two top singles for this week’s Billboard Global 200. “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please” took the Nos. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. The two songs also occupied the second and third slots on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, just behind Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s “I Had Some Help.” Carpenter’s sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet, is set to drop on Aug. 23.
